Requirements
  • A Master's Degree is required.
  • National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform complete history and physical examinations and document findings in the medical record.
  • Order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information, and indicated diagnostic procedures.
  • Serve as the first responder for nursing and house staff when patient status changes, including placing orders and initiating procedural and resuscitative interventions.
  • Assess risks associated with caring for acutely ill and complex chronically ill patients, including medication side effects, immobility, impaired nutrition, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, immunocompetence, invasive interventions, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in diagnosing acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • Manage diagnostic testing, including ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses in order of priority.
  • Identify complications and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Identify expected outcomes based on diagnosis and develop, document, and manage a comprehensive plan of care addressing complex acute and chronic healthcare needs.
  • Use evidence-based practice guidelines and protocols to create individualized, dynamic care plans across the continuum.
  • Implement and adjust the plan of care as needed.
  • Prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions.
  • Perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Engage and communicate with patients, families, and staff to promote continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Document or dictate key components of patient care, including histories and physicals, daily progress notes, plans of care, problem lists, procedure notes, acute event notes, transfer summaries, discharge summaries, clinic notes as applicable, and death summaries in the medical record.
  • Ensure documentation is timely, meets acute care compliance standards, and accurately reflects patient acuity.
  • Demonstrate professional practice behaviors, including precepting, mentoring, and educating graduate students.
  • Seek opportunities to engage in research and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Participate in Advanced Practice Grand Rounds and specialty-specific meetings.
  • Maintain required continuing education units and active membership in a professional organization.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Bone Marrow Transplant or a hematology/oncology setting is strongly preferred.
