SOS Children's Villages International is a non-governmental organization that supports children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it. It operates in 136 countries and territories with more than 2,600 locally led programmes, directly reaching over a million children, young people, and families. The organization partners with donors, communities, governments, and other groups and advocates for governments to uphold children’s rights in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children. Its work centers on family-like care and family strengthening services, backed by impact reporting (e.g., the 70 Years of Impact). Its goal is to improve the long-term well-being of vulnerable children by placing them in safe, nurturing family environments and by supporting families to care for their children, while pushing for policies and resources that protect children’s rights.
