Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED program.
  • At least 6 months of general maintenance experience in a mechanical field, 1 year of formal work-related training, or a combination of experience and training.
  • A valid Texas driver's license and good driving record are required; the employee must maintain compliance with Article II, Subdivision II of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code and provide a 10-year driving history.
  • Must pass a security clearance check.
  • Must be able to work rotating days and shifts, including evening, midnight, and weekend shifts.
  • Must be able to work with juveniles who may have committed dangerous or aggressive acts in an emotionally demanding and stressful environment.
  • Ability to climb ladders and lift more than 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged sitting, standing, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, stretching, lifting, and climbing ladders.
  • Must be able to work in varying surroundings and all weather conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Assist maintenance personnel in all areas of building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, and air conditioning.
  • Respond to emergency calls during evening, midnight, and weekend shifts.
  • Perform minor maintenance, emergency repairs, and adjustments to buildings, plumbing, electrical, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Coordinate with the on-call supervisor for assistance as needed.
  • Scan, log, inspect, and maintain building mechanical equipment, including recording meter readings and checking consoles and floor units for proper operation.
  • Adjust and repair jail door mechanisms and their parts as necessary.
  • Inspect main and auxiliary mechanical systems, including air conditioning, boiler condensation tanks, and pumps.
  • Perform weekly and monthly operational and maintenance inspections.
  • Maintain and complete required reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
