Requirements
  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school is required.
  • Five or more years of experience in real estate law and commercial contracts is required.
  • Subject matter expertise supporting organizations in highly regulated industries is required.
  • An active bar license to practice law in Massachusetts, or an applicable state with bar reciprocity, is required.
  • Expertise in healthcare regulatory compliance, labor law, contract negotiation, and risk management is required.
  • Strong strategic thinking and decision-making abilities in complex legal environments are required.
  • The ability to balance legal risk with organizational objectives in a mission-driven environment is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage outside counsel and collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional teams is required.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government personnel security clearance as a condition of employment.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
Responsibilities
  • Provide legal support for real estate matters, including leases, property acquisitions and dispositions, easements, licensing agreements, and facility-related transactions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and residential lease documents.
  • Advise the property management team on the structure and terms of real estate transactions.
  • Support property management compliance with applicable housing regulations.
  • Advise internal clients on ongoing real estate matters throughout New England.
  • Lead the drafting, review, negotiation, and administration of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, professional services agreements, government contracts, purchase agreements, and other complex business transactions.
  • Identify and manage legal risks and implement risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the organization’s assets and reputation.
  • Advise on insurance and liability coverage to protect against litigation and financial exposure.
  • Support the development and implementation of the organization’s legal strategy in partnership with the General Counsel.
  • Serve as a legal advisor to executive leadership and business partners, and support the General Counsel in advising the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team.
  • Prepare legal analyses, reports, and presentations for executive leadership and the Board.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align legal priorities with organizational goals, stakeholder expectations, and policies.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations that impact the organization and proactively adjust policies to mitigate risks.
  • Support the General Counsel in providing guidance on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and ethical standards.
  • Support legal work related to partnerships and corporate restructuring.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel on interactions with government agencies, including regulatory bodies, funding entities, and policymakers.
  • Ensure compliance with laws governing tax-exempt organizations, charitable giving, and lobbying activities.
  • Oversee legal matters related to grant compliance, funding agreements, and government contracts.
  • Represent the organization in public policy discussions, legislative advocacy, and regulatory engagements.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations, including healthcare laws, labor laws, and government contracting regulations.
  • Develop and support policies, procedures, and training programs to maintain compliance with industry and governmental regulations.
  • Manage internal investigations and regulatory audits, ensuring timely resolution and reporting.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare law providing counsel on healthcare regulatory matters, including patient privacy, reimbursement policies, medical staff bylaws, and clinical compliance.
  • Experience in labor and employment law, including employee relations, workplace policies, and dispute resolution.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for advising executives and stakeholders.
