Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • At least three years of experience in medical records-related work is required, or completion of at least one year and continued enrollment in a Health Information Management or Health Information Technology program may substitute for the experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to perform job duties, follow directions, and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of computers and internet navigation is required.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, and shared file systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Detail orientation with a high level of accuracy and organization.
  • Professional, tactful, and diplomatic interaction with internal and external customers.
Responsibilities
  • Pick up paper medical records from the University Hospital campus when assigned and as needed while maintaining confidentiality standards and following all department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Index all picked-up records within 12 hours of pickup.
  • Confirm the patient name, medical record number, and account number on paper medical records before imaging.
  • View scanned images during indexing to confirm that all images are readable and properly aligned.
  • Perform basic medical record release functions or ensure records are provided in a timely manner to cover the absence of Release of Information staff.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience with a medical records encoder, specifically Clintegrity 360, and the Epic electronic health record system is preferred.
