Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline with 0-5 years of relevant experience; or an MS with 7+ years or a BS with 9+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in small-molecule chromatographic purification and method development, preferably in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, contract research organization, or drug discovery environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in preparative supercritical fluid chromatography, including method development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of chromatographic separation science and the ability to independently solve complex purification problems.
  • Strong instrument troubleshooting skills, including experience diagnosing chromatography, fluidics, hardware, software, and workflow issues.
  • Strong understanding of medicinal chemistry and small-molecule drug discovery, with the ability to translate project needs into effective purification and analytical strategies.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute small-molecule purification strategies using preparative supercritical fluid chromatography and liquid chromatography, with particular emphasis on supercritical fluid chromatography method development and optimization.
  • Independently solve challenging separations through optimization of stationary and mobile phases, selectivity, gradients, sample loading, scale-up, and fraction collection.
  • Develop and support high-throughput compound quality-control workflows using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry and related analytical techniques to assess compound identity, purity, and sample quality.
  • Collaborate with medicinal chemistry and high-throughput experimentation teams to establish fit-for-purpose purification and quality-control strategies and rapidly deliver high-quality compounds.
  • Serve as a technical resource for supercritical fluid chromatography/liquid chromatography purification, analytical quality control, and instrument troubleshooting, including root-cause analysis of chromatography, fluidics, hardware, and software issues.
  • Provide hands-on support for supercritical fluid chromatography, liquid chromatography, and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry platforms, including maintenance, system optimization, and vendor coordination.
  • Develop and improve automated and high-throughput purification and quality-control workflows, integrating sample handling, purification, fraction processing, analytical characterization, and data management.
  • Evaluate and implement new chromatography, analytical, automation, and informatics technologies to expand throughput, capacity, and operational efficiency.
Desired Qualifications
  • Preparative liquid chromatography experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with high-throughput liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis and compound quality control, including purity and identity assessment, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with automation, high-throughput workflows, and informatics/data-management systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Agilent, Shimadzu, or comparable analytical and purification platforms is a plus.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Takeda’s February 2026 deal provides upfront, research, and technology-access payments.
  • Bayer joined June 2026, expanding non-dilutive validation beyond oncology into broader drug discovery.
  • Iambic raised over $100 million in November 2025, supporting runway into 2028.

What critics are saying

  • Takeda’s billion-dollar value depends on milestones; failure in programs kills economics.
  • IAM1363 remains single-asset clinical proof; Phase 1b setbacks would crush credibility.
  • Big pharma can internalize AI discovery, and Bayer or Takeda can switch vendors.

What makes Iambic Therapeutics unique

  • NeuralPLexer and Enchant anchor Iambic’s AI stack for structure and endpoint prediction.
  • Takeda chose Iambic in February 2026, validating platform value with blue-chip pharma.
  • IAM1363 reached Phase 1/1b in two years, versus six-year industry averages.
