About the job

Requirements
  • Passed the tax advisor examination, or be close to completing it and take on the Expert Tax role immediately afterward; passing the examination is required for the Expert Tax title.
  • Ideally have one to three years of experience after the examination at a Big Four firm, a Next 6 firm, or a focused mid-market tax firm.
  • Have previously held client responsibility and be motivated by technical depth rather than disciplinary leadership.
  • Applicants outside the stated profile are welcome if they bring substantial client responsibility and a clear specialization goal, including tax advisors with M&A or transaction advisory services backgrounds seeking operational client work, tax advisors from leading regional firms with a clear subject-matter focus, or tax advisors with a doctorate and a desire for practical work.
  • Have tax expertise in at least one area, such as partnerships, succession, international structures, reorganizations, or another clearly identifiable specialization.
  • Communicate clearly and reliably in writing and in client conversations, including on difficult topics with managing directors.
  • Use artificial intelligence as a regular tool for research, drafting, analysis, and client communication, and be motivated to automate repetitive tasks.
  • Take an entrepreneurial approach and responsibility for a client portfolio and specialty area.
  • Value a technical mastery career path and aim to deliver work to a high standard.
Responsibilities
  • Take over and independently advise an existing client portfolio, including annual financial statements, tax returns, and ongoing in-depth tax advice.
  • Serve as a direct contact for owners and managing directors of mid-market companies.
  • Advise clients on complex special matters, including tax audits, objection proceedings, tax structuring, and international structures.
  • Develop the client portfolio through industry expertise or a tax specialty, such as succession, international structures, or M&A tax.
  • Independently monitor case law and legislative changes in the specialty area and explain their implications to clients.
  • Contribute to Vogel's knowledge base through internal training, client newsletters, and advisory templates.
  • Act as the technical contact for associates in the tax line, handle complex-case escalations, provide peer input on disputed assessments, and review client work.
  • Participate in hiring at the associate level through interviews, technical assessments, and recommendations.
  • Onboard new tax colleagues on technical topics.
Desired Qualifications
  • One to three years of post-examination experience at a Big Four firm, a Next 6 firm, or a focused mid-market tax firm is preferred.
