Requirements
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in security operations, including at least three years at a supervisory level.
  • An Associate’s degree or equivalent is required.
  • A New York State Security Guard license is required or must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
  • A state-issued driver’s license in good standing is required.
  • Fire Life Safety Director certification is required or must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to deal effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • The ability to understand verbal and written direction, maintain professional demeanor and restraint during stressful situations, work independently, make accurate observations, write clear and concise reports, and respond to incidents is required.
  • The ability to lift at least 25 pounds and spend extended time standing and walking, including on stairs and in all weather conditions, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and administer the College’s safety and security program on an assigned shift, including supervising shift staff and addressing issues requiring supervisory attention.
  • Monitor adherence to safety and security rules and regulations and the conduct and performance of department personnel.
  • Oversee incident response and employee performance and provide documentation to appropriate administrators.
  • Conduct frequent random inspections of all posts and facilities to evaluate duty performance.
  • Supervise staff and coordinate with other departments and local partners during routine operations and emergencies.
  • Supervise or participate in responses to incidents and assist in resolving safety, security, and fire/life-safety difficulties.
  • Manage incident reporting through the College’s established systems.
  • Make decisions and issue policy-authorized instructions, often under stressful circumstances.
  • Maintain familiarity with College events and activities and use that information to make decisions and communicate with personnel and the campus community.
  • Keep current with developments in the security field and transmit relevant information to staff.
  • Maintain required certifications and participate in required campus training and development.
  • Perform other special assignments as directed.
  • Foster collaboration with faculty, staff, and students through community-policing practices.
  • Support diverse viewpoints and cultivate a positive, inclusive, and cohesive work environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with campus compliance requirements, including Title IX, Clery, and Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.
  • Prior security experience in a school or campus setting.
  • Knowledge of Lenel access-control and camera-monitoring systems.
