Requirements
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to positively interact with student staff and patrons.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Complete all required Penn State Learning Resource Network training sessions.
  • Work a minimum of 6-10 hours per week.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date availability in When-To-Work.
  • Accommodate a variable work schedule that may include early mornings, late evenings, and/or weekends.
  • Successfully complete American Red Cross or equivalent Adult CPR/First Aid after hire.
  • Complete required training and certification sessions for well-being room technology, well-being, Mental Health First Aid, and the Well-being Flourish model.
  • Attend department-wide meetings when the schedule allows.
  • Follow health and safety regulations and cleaning and hygiene protocols within the well-being facility.
Responsibilities
  • Welcome and assist patrons by providing information about the well-being room and its services.
  • Keep the well-being facility clean and organized, including the lounge area, massage chairs, and mind-body spaces.
  • Monitor the well-being room and enforce policies to mitigate risk.
  • Address challenges that arise with minimal supervision using problem-solving skills and adaptability.
  • Maintain a peaceful environment in the well-being room.
  • Address patron inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Uphold the risk management plan for student staff to prevent injuries and prepare students to respond appropriately to accidents, injuries, and life-threatening emergencies.
  • Educate patrons about well-being initiatives and the Penn State Flourish model.
  • Inventory equipment and cleaning supplies and notify professional staff when supplies are low and need to be reordered.
  • Create and implement well-being programming for Campus Recreation patrons with Campus Recreation FitWell professional staff.
  • Collaborate with other well-being units to execute well-being programming.
  • Inspect equipment and technology regularly and perform basic troubleshooting when problems arise.
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down well-being activities and events.
  • Encourage positive group development by engaging with participants and promoting a culture of respect and trust.
  • Assist with the evaluation and accountability of student staff.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining schedules for student employees.
  • Mentor current student staff and provide professional development opportunities.
  • Lead training and development sessions and monthly meetings within the well-being team.
  • Act as an extension of professional staff and contribute to the Campus Recreation team.
  • Pursue leadership and development opportunities, including conferences, additional training, personal study, and relevant experience.
  • Balance time commitments, give and receive feedback, recognize limitations, and work to improve in a timely manner.
