Requirements
  • Possess an approved Medical Assistant certification, such as Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers.
  • Hold Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continuing Education certification.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience, certification, or license.
  • Have a minimum of four years of relevant experience.
  • Be able to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Be skilled in office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Have experience with electronic medical records.
  • Have knowledge of integrative or lifestyle medicine principles.
  • Have strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Be able to provide patient education and work in a fast-paced outpatient clinic while providing compassionate, whole-person care.
Responsibilities
  • Support medical providers with multi-skilled clinical tasks and patient healthcare management under the supervision of a licensed physician.
  • Support patients’ individual needs, respect their spiritual beliefs and practices, and provide emotional support to patients and families.
  • Prioritize and integrate multiple requests and work expectations while performing tasks safely, professionally, and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and appropriate team members and seek assistance when needed.
  • Participate in unit or clinic programs and meetings and contribute to constructive conflict resolution.
  • Use technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating clinical information regarding diagnoses and treatments.
  • Maintain current clinical practice knowledge and competencies and complete ongoing professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulatory guidelines, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Practice within the clinical scope of practice and follow applicable State, Federal, and University standards, protocols, rules, and regulations.
  • Accept and provide focused constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Protect patient privacy and follow ethical and therapeutic communication standards.
  • Prepare treatment and examination rooms with required supplies, instruments, and materials for physical examinations.
  • Prepare patients for physician care by providing basic instructions and information about examination procedures.
  • Perform vital signs, electrocardiograms, and phlebotomy, and document results in patients’ medical records.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments using sterile technique.
  • Schedule patients for tests and complete required laboratory work forms.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies and assist with clerical duties.
  • Complete integrative medicine intake questionnaires, lifestyle assessments, and health history forms before appointments.
  • Review patient intake forms and follow up with patients about missing information.
  • Coordinate specialty laboratory testing, including test-kit distribution, patient instructions, specimen-collection logistics, shipment tracking, and follow-up.
  • Assist patients with specialty laboratory testing requirements and escalate clinical questions to the appropriate provider.
  • Support workflows for provider-recommended supplement programs and approved supplement-ordering platforms.
  • Provide patient education and resources about supplements, specialty testing, wellness programs, and integrative treatment plans as directed by providers.
  • Maintain inventory of specialty laboratory kits, educational materials, supplements, and integrative medicine supplies.
  • Serve as a liaison among patients, providers, specialty laboratory vendors, and external wellness partners to coordinate care and continuity of services.
  • Coordinate appointments and support workflows for integrative health services, including acupuncture, massage therapy, nutrition counseling, mindfulness and meditation programs, health coaching, yoga and movement therapy, and lifestyle medicine consultations.
  • Perform other duties or responsibilities as necessary.

  • Epic electronic medical record experience is commonly used at academic medical centers.
