About the job

Requirements
  • 10+ years of professional experience in customer- or partner-facing technical roles, such as Solutions Architecture, Partner Engineering, Sales Engineering, or ML Infrastructure, ideally supporting data platforms or distributed systems.
  • A proven track record working with or within a partner ecosystem, such as system integrators, cloud providers, or technology alliances, and a firm grasp of how partners take solutions to market.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts, including sharding, replication, partitioning, and performance tuning, and container orchestration, Kubernetes, and cloud object storage.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and willingness to use Rust, or vice versa, to read, debug, and write production-grade integration code or SDK extensions.
  • Ability to translate complex data infrastructure into actionable solutions for audiences ranging from partner developers to C-level executives.
  • Ability to thrive and operate autonomously in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
Responsibilities
  • Lead technical onboarding, training programs, and certifications for partner engineers and architects, equipping them to independently deliver and support LanceDB implementations.
  • Partner with alliances and field teams to support high-value proofs of concept, design reviews, and architectural validations for complex, cloud-native enterprise environments.
  • Author and maintain partner-facing technical assets, including production-ready reference architectures, integration guides, deployment blueprints using Terraform and Docker, and sample code.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between partners and internal Product and Engineering teams; synthesize partner feedback and feature requests to influence the roadmap.
  • Participate in joint business planning and support regional technical marketing events, hackathons, and campaigns alongside channel account managers.
  • Share best practices through technical blogs, whitepapers, open-source contributions, and presentations at industry conferences to drive ecosystem adoption.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience building or supporting vector search pipelines, retrieval-augmented generation applications, feature stores, or multimodal AI architectures.
  • Experience with open-source data frameworks and infrastructure orchestration tools such as Apache Spark, Ray, Delta Lake, Terraform, Kafka, or Airflow.
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry for troubleshooting distributed workloads.
  • Active contributions to open-source communities or a portfolio of developer-facing technical content, such as blogs, tutorials, or GitHub repositories.

About the company

LanceDB is an open-source vector database designed for AI applications, storing and managing high-dimensional vectors and multimodal data. It runs serverlessly with a compute-storage split to lower costs and offers multiple indexing options, including vector indexes, for fast queries; it provides hybrid search by combining semantic and full-text search as point lookups inside the database. Its open-core model plus a managed cloud (LanceDB Cloud) for enterprises gives it a cost-aware and scalable option compared to traditional managed databases. The goal is to provide developers with a production-ready, scalable, and cost-efficient datastore for AI embeddings and multimodal data, enabling easy deployment and integration for AI-powered apps.

What believers are saying

  • Series A closed July 22, 2026, led by Theory Ventures and Databricks Ventures.
  • Hugging Face integration and DuckDB SQL retrieval expanded distribution during 2026.
  • Reverie Summit on August 11, 2026, positioned LanceDB inside physical-AI and world-model spending.

What critics are saying

  • Open-source usage can commoditize LanceDB before Enterprise monetization matures in 2026.
  • Databricks, Snowflake, and OpenSearch already bundle adjacent retrieval features, squeezing LanceDB adoption.
  • If LanceDB misses enterprise-scale reliability, customers like ByteDance shift critical workloads elsewhere.

What makes LanceDB unique

  • LanceDB’s Lance format powers multimodal data, with v0.38.0 released August 31, 2026.
  • CrewAI rebuilt agent memory on LanceDB, citing 2B+ executions on August 3, 2026.
  • ByteDance Volcano Engine used Lance for 100K+ QPS and seven-day-to-one-day pipelines.
