Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required, although relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the credential.
  • Experience in an accredited healthcare facility is preferred.
  • The candidate must hold one of the listed qualifications: Certified Nursing Assistant certification from the Texas Department of Health; Certified Medical Assistant certification; Certified Mental Health Technician certification; Registered Behavior Technician certification; Certified Emergency Medical Technician certification; a Paramedic license; completion of U.S. Military Hospital Corpsman training; completion of nursing fundamentals as a nursing student in an LVN or RN program; current enrollment in an accredited EMT program; completion of a formal nursing-assistance certification or licensing program; completion of a Patient Care Technician program; graduation from a foreign nursing program with nursing credentials or licensure in the country of origin; one year of direct patient-care experience in an acute-care setting; or graduation from a healthcare-related field.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association is required.
  • Knowledge of basic clinical skills for delivering direct patient care, including taking vital signs and assisting with activities of daily living, is required.
  • The candidate must be able to accept assigned responsibilities as an accountable member of the healthcare team.
  • Proficiency with data-entry and computer skills for care documentation is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist licensed nursing staff in providing care to patients in the Medical/Surgical Unit under the supervision of the Nursing Manager and the direct supervision of the Clinical Coordinator or a designated Licensed or Registered Nurse.
  • Support the medical care of patients in accordance with hospital policies, objectives, and the Department of Nursing's philosophy.
  • Provide observer or sitter services for patients requiring constant observation to maximize patient safety.
  • Provide clerical support for the functions of the clinical unit.
