Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited therapy program.
  • Have 2–3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hold a current state Speech Language Pathologist license.
  • Hold CPR certification.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrate time management, critical thinking, sound judgment and decision-making, active listening, service orientation, social perceptiveness, and compassionate instruction.
  • Have the physical stamina to lift, transfer, and assist patients through physical activities.
  • Frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when needed.
  • Communicate clearly with patients in person and over the phone.
  • Have visual acuity adequate to examine patients and read printed and computer-screen information.
  • Follow Universal Precautions when exposed to blood, body fluids, and other infectious drainage.
Responsibilities
  • Perform assessments, diagnose language and swallowing disorders, and develop treatment plans.
  • Evaluate swallowing, speech, and language difficulty levels and identify treatment options.
  • Create and carry out individualized treatment plans addressing specific functional needs.
  • Teach patients to produce sounds, improve their voices, and maintain fluency.
  • Create patient goals and objectives and identify progress and challenges.
  • Provide support and advice to patients, caregivers, and families.
  • Counsel patients and families on coping with swallowing and communication disorders.
  • Compile detailed notes on patient progress and adjust therapies and treatment plans as necessary.
  • Document patient care services according to approved medical and facility documentation procedures.
  • Support residents across Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Healthcare neighborhoods through patient-centered care.
  • Encourage collaboration and flexibility within the department and interdepartmental teamwork.
