Airbnb sees revenue surge past $3.6B as AI-powered improvements boost guest conversion and first-time bookings

Airbnb reported strong second-quarter results, with revenue of $3.61 billion, beating analyst estimates of $3.58 billion and marking 16.5% year-on-year growth. Adjusted EBITDA reached $1.26 billion, exceeding expectations of $1.23 billion, whilst operating margin improved to 21% from 19.8% last year. CEO Brian Chesky attributed the performance to product improvements powered by artificial intelligence. Guest conversion rates increased due to streamlined search and booking processes, whilst first-time booker growth hit a four-year high. During the earnings call, analysts questioned the company's hotel initiative, AI-powered search rollout, and plans to become a comprehensive travel platform. Chesky confirmed hotel supply is growing rapidly and stated the company aims to be a one-stop travel shop, though near-term mergers and acquisitions are not considered critical.
