Requirements
  • A Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from a Commission on Dental Accreditation-accredited dental school or equivalent is required.
  • A certificate of training and educational qualification from an American Dental Association-accredited specialty program is required.
  • Dental license registration is required, and the candidate must be eligible for licensure in New Mexico.
  • Previous teaching experience is required.
  • A track record of scholarly activity and outstanding patient care, along with demonstrated or likely commitment to diversity-related teaching, research, or service, is required.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and digital dentistry technology and experience in faculty calibration are required.
  • Professionalism, diplomacy, judgment, discretion, and strong interpersonal competency are required.
  • The ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues is required.
  • The ability to organize tasks is required.
  • A Drug Enforcement Administration number is required.
  • Board eligibility or certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Initiate and guide student doctor and patient interactions.
  • Perform dental procedures on clinic patients as needed.
  • Model and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques.
  • Assist in solving patient-related problems.
  • Assist the Director of Periodontics in reviewing each student's performance within the pediatric dentistry clinic.
  • Ensure the accuracy of student clinical notes, approve student procedural codes, and evaluate students in preparedness, professionalism, and promptness.
  • Monitor unapproved treatment notes on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Report instances of misconduct to the Director of Periodontics.
  • Maintain calibration as determined by the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Ensure that clinical protocols are followed in assigned clinical areas.
  • Ensure infection-control compliance.
  • Complete reviews of student activity upon request.
  • Aid in supervising the Clinical Formative and Summative Examination process.
  • Attend periodic meetings with the Director of Periodontics and clinical faculty meetings, including Faculty Forum membership if appointed, and participate in relevant clinical committees.
