About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 8 years in enterprise, platform, or application architecture roles, with demonstrated depth and breadth across multiple information technology domains and production systems at enterprise scale.
  • Demonstrable, current, hands-on practice working AI-natively with frontier models and agents, authoring skills, rules, harnesses, and agentic workflows, and using them as an actual method of designing and deciding.
  • Working understanding of AI architecture, including agent orchestration and runtimes, control planes, inference gateways and model routing, knowledge bases and context (RAG, MCP), evaluations, guardrails, and AI/MLOps.
  • Proven portfolio-level judgment, including ownership of build-versus-buy decisions, technical trade-off analysis, and ability to make decisions stick with a line of business that wanted a different answer.
  • Deep integration and data architecture experience, including API-first contracts, event and data streaming, canonical models, system-of-record ownership, and integration between enterprise systems such as ERP, payroll and HR, and proprietary platforms.
  • Experience architecting and integrating large-scale custom software products, internal and customer-facing, and making a portfolio of distinct products operate as a coherent whole.
  • Solid cloud architecture experience, ideally AWS, including reference architectures, landing zones, well-architected design, containers and serverless runtimes, and automated or dynamic provisioning.
  • Design and guidance experience in knowledge management for an AI world, including structuring documentation, standards, and institutional knowledge so machines can use them.
  • Hands-on background across a full agile software development life cycle, including discovery, scoping (PRDs and ADRs), delivery, testing, deployment, and support, with enough full-stack and DevOps grounding to be credible with engineers.
  • Experience in enterprise environments with real security, governance, data-handling, and regulatory constraints.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including explaining architectural direction and trade-offs to technical and executive audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • English proficiency is required for job-related communications.

Responsibilities

  • Hold binding authority across the full enterprise estate to decide whether to buy, build with agents, fold a capability into an existing product, or not build it.
  • Own the intake and decision process for architecture requests, including how requests surface, how they are assessed, and how quickly they receive an answer.
  • Default to buying commodity capabilities and building differentiators, maintaining that approach as agentic delivery makes building appear inexpensive.
  • Own build-versus-buy evaluation, technical trade-off analysis, and vendor and platform fit.
  • Prevent redundant systems from being created, including duplicate customer relationship management systems.
  • Document decisions and their reasoning so they are consistent, reviewable, and reusable.
  • Serve as enterprise-wide architectural authority across custom digital products, the SaaS and ERP portfolio, cloud, data, and integration.
  • Settle system-of-record ownership and the canonical data model, defining where each entity lives, who owns it, and where copies are allowed.
  • Design a reusable, self-service enterprise integration layer with API-first contracts, an event backbone, service and tool discovery, and identity for non-human actors.
  • Set cloud architecture direction on AWS through reference architectures, landing zones, and provisioning patterns, including environments autonomous agents can operate in safely.
  • Make distinct products work as a coherent whole and identify where system and team boundaries need to move together.
  • Design a contained environment where business teams can safely ideate and prototype using sanctioned tools, data boundaries, and blast-radius limits.
  • Define the gate for evaluating ideas from the safe harbor, determining what qualifies to proceed and whether it is carried forward into an existing digital product, established as a new product, or discarded as redundant.
  • Keep the safe harbor limited to ideation rather than production; central IT carries good ideas forward.
  • Assist in designing the citizen toolset so business-created work is legible to IT and usable as a requirements artifact.
  • Make the safe harbor useful enough that field teams use it rather than bypassing it.
  • Ensure an enterprise ecosystem for knowledge management is designed, coherent, adopted, and usable by machines, in coordination with the Product team.
  • Provide design and guidance for how knowledge lives in an AI world, including its structure, retrievability, ownership, and freshness.
  • Structure architecture principles, standards, patterns, and decisions as consumable artifacts for teams and agents.
  • Shape AI-native work planning, prioritization, and completion tracking, including evaluating whether human-oriented ticketing tools remain suitable when agents are primary consumers.
  • Encode standards as reusable scaffolds, safe defaults, and automated checks, reserving formal review for genuinely irreversible decisions.
  • Define requirements for the agentic delivery paved road, including control-plane and agent-runtime patterns, guardrails, evaluations, supervision, and observability; the agentic delivery pod builds and operates it.
  • Contribute within the group design process while retaining the final call on architectural patterns.
  • Make the first delivery pod’s choices reusable patterns for subsequent pods and teams.
  • Design team boundaries and interaction modes to support loosely coupled, fast-iterating architecture.
  • Pilot, prototype, and recommend adoption of evolving capabilities, including electric vehicle technology, Internet of Things and on-vehicle systems, cloud-native patterns, and frontier AI.
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Cybersecurity and their team to encode security, privacy, and regulatory requirements as policy-as-code and safe defaults.
  • Ensure obligations concerning student and driver data, including FERPA and applicable privacy laws, are inherited by construction.
  • Apply the same compliance-by-construction approach to the safe harbor and autonomous agents, including dynamic access provisioning and business-built prototypes.
  • At six months, run buy/build/fold-in/do-not-build decisions through a working intake, document reusable reasoning, set direction on system-of-record ownership and the integration fabric, advance principles and standards into usable artifacts, design machine-usable knowledge management, establish patterns for Central IT and the agentic delivery pod, and stand up a contained safe harbor with a defined gate.
  • At twelve months, shape demand through completed buy/build/fold-in/stop decisions, prevent redundant systems, make standards consumable by default, establish coherent machine-usable enterprise knowledge management, enable Central IT to plan, design, build, and support AI-natively on established patterns, put AI-native work planning and tracking into early use, maintain integration and data architecture as products connect through it, and develop an early citizen-builder capability.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, C4, Zachman, or FEAF as practical tools; TOGAF certification is a plus.
  • AWS certification, such as Solutions Architect – Professional.
  • Experience governing citizen development or low-code platforms at enterprise scale, including intake, promotion, and sunset.
  • Experience consolidating or retiring redundant systems and handling the organizational friction involved.
  • Experience with docs-as-code, developer portals, knowledge graphs, or MCP servers as machine-facing knowledge surfaces.
  • Experience with policy-as-code, such as OPA, and compliance-by-construction in regulated environments.
  • Platform-first architecture depth involving base platforms and child applications, plus shared services such as authentication and accounts, messaging and notifications, search, files and media, and localization.
  • Experience with electric vehicle technology, Internet of Things, telematics, and on-bus or on-vehicle technology solutions.
  • Experience with transportation, logistics, routing, geospatial, or operations-focused software.
  • Experience applying AI in governed enterprise environments, including FERPA-relevant or similarly regulated data.
