Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential with one year of relevant experience.
  • Good communication skills.
  • A good understanding of program needs.
  • A strong willingness to improve oneself and help others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
  • Ability to report suspected child abuse and neglect in accordance with New York State requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Assist Safehouse residents with basic needs.
  • Provide support counseling to Safehouse residents.
  • Conduct follow-up contacts through in-person contact, telephone contact, or written communication.
  • Provide crisis hotline counseling.
  • Provide information and referrals.
  • Assist with filing New York State Office of Victim Services compensation claims, including informing victims about program availability.
  • Maintain case records and summary logs and complete directed reports.
  • Follow and enforce established policies and procedures with shelter residents.
  • Provide pertinent information about suspected child abuse and neglect to the Director.
  • Fill in the staff schedule as needed to maintain 24-hour coverage of the Safehouse shelter.
  • Help maintain the shelter in regulatory status, including cleaning the facility.
  • Provide coverage in the Safehouse domestic violence shelter and maintain a safe, secure, comfortable, and supportive environment.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Safehouse Director or Commanding Officers.
