Pet demand is now subscription infrastructure.

Pet demand is now subscription infrastructure. 84.6% of Chewy's sales now come from customers who never click "buy" again. Meanwhile, a $1B pet brand many retailers have never heard of is preparing to go public. Two signals dropped on September 9, the same day. Chewy reported Q2 net sales of $3.33 billion, up 7.3% year over year, with 21.7 million active customers. The number that matters: 84.6% of those sales came from Autoship subscriptions - recurring, locked-in, predictable revenue. The same day, Reuters reported that Golden Pet Brands - the employee-owned company behind Dr. Marty Pets and Badlands Ranch - has hired Morgan Stanley and Barclays for a New York IPO at a valuation above $1 billion. They brought in a former Mars and P&G executive as CEO in April to get ready. Put the two together, and here is what Masa Development International see from the sourcing side. Pet demand is not discretionary anymore. It is subscription infrastructure. When 85% of the category leader's revenue is on autopilot, demand forecasting gets radically more predictable. That is good news for everyone in the supply chain - factories can plan capacity, buyers can commit to longer production windows, and inventory risk drops across the board. The next wave of pet brands will buy differently. DTC brands like Dr. Marty Pets grew up on Instagram storytelling, not shelf placement. They buy differently: smaller opening orders, faster iteration, obsessive attention to packaging and unboxing - and they expect their supplier to move at content-calendar speed. For a sourcing partner, that means flexible MOQs, quick sampling cycles, and the ability to coordinate retail-ready and e-commerce-ready packaging from the same product platform. Capital is pricing this shift. A freeze-dried pet food platform with no legacy retail network is worth $1B+ to public market investors. The buyers of the next decade are being built right now - and they need suppliers who can do small-batch, fast-turn, brand-sensitive production. Suppliers who only know how to serve big-box retail purchase orders will find the next generation of pet brands hard to work with. The ones who learned small-batch flexibility will find them to be the best customers they have ever had. What this means for buyers. MASA Development International has been sourcing pet products since 2008 - cat trees, pet beds, pet apparel, pet bags, accessories and toys - alongside home decor, ceramics and glass. Masa Development International work with both models: volume programs for retail chains, and small-batch OEM development for emerging DTC brands. Planning a pet product line?
