Requirements
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge is required.
  • At least one year of experience in patient financial services, financial collecting services, or insurance industry processes is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to interact effectively with a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of common office software, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Responsibilities
  • Process payments, adjustments, claims, correspondence, refunds, denials, financial or charity applications, and payment plans accurately and timely while meeting quality and productivity goals.
  • Coordinate with staff members and physician office staff to ensure correct processing.
  • Reconcile, balance, and pursue account balances, payments, and denials using payer remittances, facility contracts, payer customer service, provider representatives, spreadsheets, and collection or self-pay policies.
  • Research payments, denials, and accounts to identify short or overpayments, contract discrepancies, incorrect financial classes, and internal or external errors.
  • Make appeals and corrections as necessary.
  • Build working relationships with assigned business units, hospital departments, and provider offices.
  • Identify trends in payment issues and communicate with internal and external customers to educate them and correct problems.
  • Provide customer service to internal clients, patients, patient families, providers, and other internal and external customers.
  • Respond to incoming calls and make outbound calls to resolve billing, payment, and accounting issues.
  • Work as a member of the patient financial services team to achieve goals for outstanding account days and dollars and reduce accounts receivable balances.
  • Use systems to document information, provide statistical data, prepare issue lists, and communicate accurately with payers.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
  • Provide customers with a positive service experience by consistently demonstrating organizational core and leader behaviors.
