MSA Safety unveils A1X vacuum anchor for aircraft maintenance: 35% lighter, broader compatibility

MSA Safety has launched the A1X, a next-generation WinGrip vacuum anchor for aircraft maintenance. The device creates secure, non-invasive anchor points on aircraft surfaces using vacuum suction technology, enabling technicians to work safely on wings and fuselages. The A1X weighs 7kg, 35% lighter than its predecessor, with a reduced diameter of 350mm. Its smaller size expands compatibility to include business jets and private aircraft previously outside WinGrip's scope. The anchor is approved by major manufacturers including Airbus and Boeing. Designed without electronics, the A1X operates safely in fuel vapour environments. Its pneumatic system doubles anchor repositions per cylinder compared to earlier versions. The device is optimised for A and B check operations, where a single technician can deploy and reposition anchor points independently. The A1X will be displayed at MRO Europe in October 2026.
