Requirements
  • A valid Class 1/3 license with manual transmission and air-brake qualification is required.
  • Ability to work the evening shift from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM is required.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must have manual dexterity and the ability to lift, push, and pull hoses weighing 50 or more pounds.
  • Must be able to work out of town, on rotation, overtime, nights, weekends, and weekly on-call emergency-response schedules.
  • Must use the Geotab electronic log system.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
  • Valid work authorization in Canada is required.
  • Must be able to remain calm and respond quickly during hazardous-material spills and other unpredictable emergency situations.
Responsibilities
  • Safely drive and operate tandem-axle vacuum trucks in refineries, industrial sites, marine ports, and environmental emergency-response settings.
  • Safely operate vacuum and pressure equipment, including vacuum pumps, hoses, booms, and valves.
  • Load, transport, and unload non-hazardous and hazardous materials, including fuel oils, drilling fluids, sludge, sewage, and wastewater.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and routine vehicle maintenance, including greasing, fluid checks, and replenishing spill and first-aid supplies.
  • Follow all applicable safety protocols, Acts, and regulations.
  • Perform manual labor such as dragging hoses, pressure-cleaning tanks, and working in confined spaces while climbing, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and timely driver logs, load manifests, Transportation of Dangerous Goods documentation, Occupational Health and Safety documentation, and work orders.
  • Communicate with the public, customers, coworkers, site dispatch, and supervisors verbally and in writing.
  • Provide supervisors with feedback about customer, mechanical, and delivery problems.
  • Perform tank-cleaning tasks.
  • Occasionally mentor and train others to operate the equipment.
Desired Qualifications
  • H2S Alive certification, First Aid/CPR, Confined Space Entry, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods training are assets.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance are assets.
  • Organizational skills, oral and written communication abilities, task prioritization, multitasking, timeline use, and time-management techniques are desirable.
  • A strong work ethic and high personal integrity are desirable.

GFL Environmental launches two RNG facilities with OPAL Fuels to power 800 heavy-duty trucks

OPAL Fuels and GFL Environmental have begun construction on two renewable natural gas facilities at landfills in Georgia and Alabama. The projects will convert landfill methane into approximately 15 million gasoline gallon equivalents of RNG annually, enough to fuel roughly 800 Class 8 trucks. The expansion deepens GFL's partnership with OPAL Fuels in decarbonising transportation and building RNG infrastructure. However, the development doesn't substantially alter GFL's near-term investment narrative, which remains focused on integrating past acquisitions, managing high leverage and delivering on 2026 revenue guidance. GFL recently authorised share buybacks of up to 34.7 million shares and increased its dividend by 10%. Analysts project the company's revenue could reach CA$8.6 billion by 2029, implying 8.8% annual growth.

GFL to acquire Secure Waste for $6.4B, adding 80+ facilities across Western Canada

GFL Environmental has agreed to acquire Secure Waste Infrastructure for $6.4 billion, expanding its presence in Western Canada and North Dakota. The deal includes over 80 locations comprising 12 landfills, 55 waste treatment facilities, 12 recycling facilities, 98 injection wells and five transfer stations. Secure shareholders can choose $24.75 in cash, 0.4195 GFL subordinate voting shares, or a combination for each share held. Cash payments are capped at 20% of the total consideration, with GFL shares limited to 80%. GFL founder and CEO Patrick Dovigi said the acquisition will densify the company's Western Canada footprint and enhance its ability to offer comprehensive waste management services. The transaction requires shareholder approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
