Requirements
  • Be a full-time law student in the second year of law school, or a part-time or dual-degree law student who has completed at least one year of coursework and will not graduate before summer 2027.
  • Demonstrate strong legal writing, analytical, and oral communication skills.
  • Have experience effectively working on a team.

  • Commit to working in the office three days per week, Tuesdays through Thursdays.
  • Submit a cover letter, transcript, resume, contact information for two references, and a legal writing sample.
Responsibilities
  • Research and prepare legal memoranda in support of rulemaking proceedings, litigation case development, and active litigation.
  • Interview NRDC members and prepare standing declarations.
  • Help draft and review portions of pleadings and review briefs.
  • Help prepare comments for submission to administrative agencies or legislative bodies.
  • Help craft proposed legislation addressing environmental and public health problems.
  • Work on cases and projects with attorneys across the Human Health, Equity & Justice, Climate & Energy, and Nature issue areas.
  • Attend planned meetings, collaborate with management and coworkers, and occasionally attend office or offsite events.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in environmental law or with environmental issues is not required; applicants with room to grow as legal writers, researchers, and communicators are welcomed.
