Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Master of Science degree or graduation from an accredited school for Physician Assistants.
  • Hold a current Indiana license or be eligible for one.
  • Have a collaborative agreement with the affiliated physician group.
  • Hold current Indiana Controlled Substance and Drug Enforcement Administration registrations.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and manage uncomplicated obstetrical patients, including prenatal and postpartum care, excluding labor and delivery, admitting, and operating room privileges.
  • Monitor fetal well-being using fetal Doppler and blood tests during office visits.
  • Order and evaluate fetal surveillance using ultrasound and non-stress testing.
  • Maintain professional skills and knowledge of guidelines for managing pregnancies with associated conditions, including gestational diabetes, chronic hypertension, obesity, prior cesarean, anemia, and substance abuse.
  • Recognize and refer high-risk patients according to established policies.
  • Provide group prenatal care for cohorts of patients with similar social or educational concerns.
  • Evaluate and treat gynecologic patients, focusing on breast and cervical health and treating conditions such as vulvovaginitis and cervicitis.
  • Evaluate and manage referred patients with gynecologic conditions such as abnormal uterine bleeding, polycystic ovary syndrome, pelvic pain, menopausal symptoms, and urinary incontinence.
  • Recognize conditions requiring referral to a gynecology physician for surgical or medical treatment.
  • Provide family-planning care, including counseling on temporary and permanent birth-control methods.
  • Prescribe and manage oral, transdermal, injectable, and vaginal hormonal methods.
  • Insert and remove Nexplanon, intrauterine devices, and implants.
  • Counsel and refer patients for permanent surgical methods.
  • Evaluate patients by ordering and reviewing gynecologic ultrasounds to determine diagnoses and plans of care.
  • Perform microscopic examinations of bacterial and fungal smears.
  • Perform procedures as permitted for Women's Health Nurse Practitioners, including endometrial, vulvar, and punch biopsies; incision and drainage of abscesses; pessary placement; and colposcopy.
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, day-to-day evaluation, pharmacologic intervention under physician direction, care-plan coordination, referrals, and information resources for patients, families, and staff.
