Requirements
  • A D.D.S. or D.M.D. from a Commission on Dental Accreditation-accredited dental school or equivalent is required.
  • A certificate of training and educational qualification from an American Dental Association-accredited specialty program is required.
  • Dental license registration is required, and the candidate must be eligible for licensure in New Mexico.
  • A high degree of interpersonal competency, including professionalism, diplomacy, judgment, and discretion, is required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues.
  • The candidate must be able to organize tasks.
Responsibilities
  • Initiate and guide student doctor and patient interaction.
  • Perform dental procedures on clinic patients as needed.
  • Model and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques.
  • Assist in solving patient-related problems.
  • Assist the Director of Orthodontics in reviewing each student's performance within the orthodontic clinic.
  • Ensure the accuracy of student clinical notes, approve student procedural codes, and evaluate and assess students in preparedness, professionalism, and promptness.
  • Monitor unapproved treatment notes on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Report instances of misconduct to the Director of Orthodontics.
  • Maintain calibration as determined by the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Ensure that all clinical protocols are followed in the assigned clinical areas.
  • Ensure infection-control compliance.
  • Complete reviews of student activity upon request.
  • Assist with supervision of the Clinical Formative and Summative Examination Process.
  • Attend periodic meetings with the Director of Orthodontics and clinical faculty meetings, including Faculty Forum.
  • Serve on relevant clinical committees if appointed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • A Drug Enforcement Administration number.
  • Board eligibility or certification.
  • A track record of scholarly activity and outstanding patient care, along with demonstrated or likely commitment to diversity-related teaching, research, or service.
  • Engagement and familiarity with curriculum development and digital dentistry technology, and experience in faculty calibration.
