Requirements
  • Strong proficiency building and consuming REST APIs, including versioning, pagination, and error semantics.
  • Experience integrating with third-party systems, including rate limits, partial failures, retries, idempotency, and webhook delivery.
  • Experience moving data between systems with mismatched models, including deduplication, record mapping, and reconciliation.
  • Ability to design data models and Ruby on Rails objects for medium-sized features, write non-trivial operational and bulk SQL queries, and read a PostgreSQL EXPLAIN plan.
  • Experience writing behavior-focused tests that remain reliable through refactors, including tests against services outside the team's control, using Minitest.
  • Track record of taking ambiguous problems, identifying the required work, and driving solutions to completion without detailed specifications.
  • Willingness to support peers and prioritize team throughput over individual output.
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain deep customer relationship management and mass-data-synchronization integrations as ongoing products.
  • Ensure records are delivered exactly once to the correct account in a format the receiving system can process, including handling deduplication, partial failures, and resumed runs.
  • Build monitoring, error reporting, and logging that make synchronization failures diagnosable before customers discover them.
  • Model data and design public application programming interfaces and webhooks, including naming, pagination, and error semantics.
  • Analyze requirements through a Jobs-to-be-Done lens and incorporate customer value, feasibility, and engineering cost into integration prioritization.
  • Review peer pull requests, help support agents with technical questions during shifts, and use escalations as product signals.
  • Maintain accurate developer-facing documentation and create, edit, and remove internal documentation.
  • Design and develop backend features using Ruby and Ruby on Rails, frontend features using vanilla JavaScript, Hotwire, Semantic HTML, and CSS, and data solutions using PostgreSQL, relational databases, and SQL.
  • Use REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, Minitest, fixtures, the Rails MVC pattern, and object-oriented programming in the technology stack.

Donorbox vs Koolay: where each wins for nonprofits.

Donorbox vs Koolay: where each wins for nonprofits. Koolay Team April 27, 2026 3 min Donorbox is a real product with real users - this comparison takes that seriously. No vendor sleight-of-hand, just an honest look at where each platform fits. The 30-second take. Donorbox is a solid pick for tiny orgs that need only a donation widget on an existing website. Koolay is the better fit for nonprofits who need more than just donation forms - donations, donor CRM, events, grants, volunteers, content, newsletters, all in one operating system. What Donorbox does well. * Polished one-page donation forms * Strong recurring giving UX * Quick to embed on any site Where Koolay pulls ahead. * Built-in donor CRM, segments, pledges, and grant tracking - Donorbox stops at the form * AI-generated donation pages tuned to your mission, not a generic widget * Plaid-powered bank reconciliation so every Zelle and check matches automatically * All channels in one bill - donations, events, newsletters, volunteers, grants * Lower platform fee on the same Stripe pipeline Side-by-side. | Capability | Donorbox | Koolay | | Donation forms | | Core focus | | Same depth, with more around it | | Donor CRM (segments, LTV, soft-credits) | | | | Built in | | Recurring giving with upgrade prompts | | Some support | | | | Grant Hub (RFP matching + drafts) | | | | Unique to Koolay | | Volunteer + event check-in apps | | Add-on or absent | | Included | | Plaid bank reconciliation | | | | | | AI content drafting (mission, appeals, thank-yous) | | Mostly absent | | Built in | | Custom domain (yourcause.org) | | Some support | | Standard | | Year-end tax statements automated | | Some support | | | | Self-serve onboarding | | Some support | | Live in an hour | Pricing posture. Koolay publishes pricing on the website - no "request a quote" gate. Your monthly subscription covers the entire platform, not a base tier you upsell from. Payment processing rides Stripe (and PayPal where preferred), so the per-transaction cost matches what Donorbox pays. The difference shows up at the platform layer: Koolay rolls 6+ products into one bill, where the Donorbox-equivalent stack would be Donorbox + a CRM + a newsletter tool + a grant tracker + an event tool. Switching from Donorbox. Export your Donorbox donor CSV and drop it into Admin | Contacts | Import; recurring plans rebuild on first donor login. For most teams the migration is a half-day exercise - donors, recurring plans, segments, and giving history move cleanly. Its success team will sit with you on a screen-share if needed; Koolay Inc. want you live, not stuck. Who should still pick Donorbox. Be honest with yourself: if you're tiny orgs that need only a donation widget on an existing website and don't see that changing in 18 months, Donorbox is fine. The moment you outgrow donation forms alone - and most growing nonprofits do - coming to Koolay means you stop paying separate vendors for each function. Bottom line. Donorbox is good at what it does. Koolay is good at more, on the same Stripe pipeline, in one console, with AI doing the boring parts so your team can focus on the mission. If you're starting fresh, start with the platform that grows with you. If you're switching, the migration is faster than your last quarterly board meeting. Ready to switch? Try Koolay free for 14 days - no credit card, full feature access.
