About the job

Requirements
  • Demonstrated hands-on delivery with Databricks Unity Catalog identity and security, including service-principal versus on-behalf-of-user execution, account-level versus workspace identity, and designing within client-controlled grants.
  • Demonstrated delivery of a web application that executes user-supplied SQL against Databricks SQL warehouses with correct identity handling; experience with Databricks Apps hosting is preferred, while equivalent hosting is acceptable if the candidate owned identity and warehouse execution.
  • Experience using Databricks Asset Bundles across development, sandbox, and production environments, and the Jobs API, including triggering jobs from external events.
  • Databricks workspace and infrastructure administration experience, including SQL warehouses, compute and app configuration, secrets, connections, credentials, entitlements, permissions, and cost monitoring.
  • Experience designing catalogs, schemas, and tables in Unity Catalog, including naming standards, environment separation, and schema evolution.
  • Advanced SQL skills, strong Databricks SQL skills, and sufficient source-side SQL experience (such as T-SQL or Oracle) to read and reason about the external system being ingested.
  • Experience configuring ingestion from external SQL systems into Databricks, including connectors, incremental loading, scheduling, reconciliation, and failure handling.
  • Ability to deliver within another organization's guardrails, escalate access blockers, and communicate in writing across time zones.
  • Experience building and supporting web applications, including front-end delivery with Node.js, React, or an equivalent supported framework; rendering query results, accepting parameters, handling errors, and maintaining performance under real user load.
  • Knowledge of the Unity Catalog identity and security model, including service principals, groups, grants, ownership, storage credentials, and external locations; ability to specify required grants and request them through the client's process.
  • Experience configuring and right-sizing SQL warehouses, with attention to concurrency, cost, and response time.
  • Experience with Git, code review, and integration with a client CI/CD pipeline.
Responsibilities
  • Build, configure, deploy, and support a web application hosted on Databricks Apps that serves data to business users.
  • Deliver an app that executes user-supplied or parameterized SQL against Databricks SQL warehouses with correct end-to-end identity handling.
  • Design and justify authorization choices between on-behalf-of-user execution and app service-principal execution, accounting for row-level access and auditability.
  • Manage app configuration, secrets, resource bindings, permissions, and app lifecycle across environments.
  • Configure and operate ingestion from external SQL systems into Unity Catalog using managed connectors, JDBC or connection objects, Lakehouse Federation, or the client's standard pattern.
  • Set up full-refresh and incremental loads, scheduling, watermarking, reconciliation, and failure handling.
  • Own source connectivity, including connection objects, credentials, service principals, network reachability, and coordination with source-system owners.
  • Validate landed data against the source, including row counts, types, nulls, and late-arriving records, and document the checks.
  • Design catalog, schema, and table layouts for landed and curated data, including naming standards, object structure, and environment-specific data locations.
  • Specify required grants for the app and pipelines, request them through the client's process, and design within the privileges the platform team will provide.
  • Apply schema evolution and change management without breaking downstream consumers.
  • Configure and right-size SQL warehouses for app and reporting workloads, tuning concurrency, cost, and response time.
  • Administer workspace configuration relevant to the build, including compute policies, app compute, secret scopes, connection and credential objects, entitlements, and permissions.
  • Monitor usage, query history, and system tables; keep the solution within agreed cost envelopes and flag risks early.
  • Package and promote the app, jobs, and supporting objects with Databricks Asset Bundles across development, sandbox, and production, using appropriate environment-specific configuration.
  • Build and operate jobs through the Jobs API, including triggering jobs from external events rather than schedules.
  • Work in Git, participate in code review, and integrate with the client's CI/CD pipeline.
  • Monitor production pipelines and the app, triage and resolve failures, and own fixes through to closure.
  • Tune SQL and warehouse behavior when queries are slow or expensive.
  • Produce runbooks, architecture notes, and access-model documentation to enable the client team to operate the solution.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience hosting applications on Databricks Apps; equivalent hosting experience is acceptable when the candidate personally owned identity handling and warehouse execution.

QualityAI to hire 100 employees in Israel despite AI-driven QA layoffs.

QualityAI to hire 100 employees in Israel despite AI-driven QA layoffs. The software testing company, previously known as QualiTest, is expanding its local workforce even as the industry moves toward automation. 17:41, 28.06.26 While a large portion of the high-tech layoffs in recent weeks comes from the software testing (QA) field, which is shifting toward automated execution using AI, there are companies that do not believe in this trend. Calcalist has learned that the veteran software testing company QualiTest is currently recruiting 100 employees for software testing positions, SAP testers, cloud testing specialists, and automation specialists. QualiTest, a veteran company that has been operating for almost 30 years, is managed by Shai Lieberman and recently changed its name to QualityAI. It employs about 7,000 employees worldwide, mainly in Eastern Europe, of whom 1,500 are in Israel. All of the new positions are in the Israeli branch. The company confirmed the news and noted that it even intends to specifically approach employees laid off from Wix, which recently cut around 1,000 jobs, in order to recruit them for the open positions. This is a surprising move in light of the fact that QA is one of the first fields undergoing automation and replacement by AI. For example, Israeli cyber giant Check Point recently disbanded its QA department; some employees were laid off, while others were reassigned to different roles within the company. In response, QualityAI says that as AI systems expand and become an integral part of business operations, organizations are discovering that the real challenge is not only adopting AI, but ensuring it can be trusted. For many organizations, AI adoption creates new needs for planning, monitoring, and verifying the performance of AI-based systems. According to QualityAI, the move is also intended to address "AI washing", layoffs that are not necessarily driven by AI adoption, but are instead aimed at improving workforce efficiency or reducing excess headcount accumulated during the boom period.
