Requirements
  • A master's degree is required for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Acute care certification is required for an Advanced Practice Nurse candidate, while Physician Assistant candidates are also considered.
  • An applicable New Jersey Advanced Practice Nurse and Registered Nurse license or New Jersey Physician Assistant license is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • New graduates may be considered, but must be highly motivated to learn and seek independent opportunities in addition to work-related orientation to become autonomous in the role.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Cooper intensivists to manage intensive care patients.
  • Practice within the applicable state scope of practice, clinical privileges, and professional standards.
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients' health problems and needs autonomously or in consultation with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform patient histories and physical examinations, determine working differential diagnoses, and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Order, perform, supervise, and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Prescribe pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies in accordance with applicable guidelines and state and federal law.
  • Provide therapeutic measures and patient, family, and group teaching, education, and counseling.
  • Formulate diagnoses for uncommon or unstable conditions in consultation with collaborating or supervising physicians, and refer patients or participate in dual management and treatment when appropriate.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses while emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Serve as a healthcare researcher, professional educator, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.
  • Document prescribed medications and authorized refills in the patient's chart.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in critical care and/or hospital medicine.
  • Experience with point-of-care ultrasound.
  • Experience performing procedures such as intubation, central line placement, and arterial line placement.
