Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience are required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities
  • Perform operational and business duties supporting a clinical area or department, including clinic workflow, clinical quality outcomes, patient relations or satisfaction, clinic-specific budgeting, and coordination.
  • Develop business management practices, planning mechanisms, control systems, and organizational structures for one moderately sized or two smaller clinical departments.
  • Develop business plans that map revenues to resources and lead to realistic action plans.
  • Organize and analyze information needed to understand departmental clinical operations.
  • Enhance expenditure control systems and strengthen billing and collection systems for professional fees.
  • Manage the commitment-accounting system and operating budgets typically ranging from $10 million to $30 million.
  • Develop management reporting systems to keep the chairperson informed of departmental activities.
  • Manage employees through subordinate supervisors or lead workers.
  • Recruit, select, orient, and train employees and develop growth opportunities for staff.
  • Coach, counsel, and discipline employees; monitor and appraise job results; and conduct training.
  • Oversee divisional activities, surveys, reports, quality assurance, purchases, major equipment and service approvals, space and materials, new or revised activities, performance evaluation, and operational improvement.
  • Develop and monitor salary, operating, and capital budgets; manage grants, contracts, clinical funds, and gift or endowment funds; and ensure fiscal control.
  • Supervise accounting and purchasing functions, including reconciliation, problem resolution, and analysis of revenue and expense trends and variances.
  • Evaluate budget information for appropriateness, exemptions, trends, and accuracy.
  • Manage fiscal aspects of clinical practices, including fee setting, income and expense reporting, and implementation of faculty compensation plans.
  • Promote accurate billing, timely charge capture, and revenue enhancement opportunities through practice-plan management information.
  • Identify and evaluate non-technical staff, manage division staff directly or indirectly, establish internal policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Advise faculty and staff on personnel administration, including supervision, performance evaluation, compensation, progressive discipline, termination, leave, disability, and employee benefits.
  • Prepare salary recommendations, distribution change forms, and other personnel action forms.
  • Monitor staff and faculty compensation levels for equity; evaluate job-responsibility changes; and develop requests for new positions and job reclassifications.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives within the divisions.
  • Advise on administrative and fiscal activities related to strategic planning and problem resolution.
  • Represent the divisions in interactions with the department, Strong Memorial Hospital, the Medical Center, the University, community organizations, and internal and external organizations involved in research, education, and patient care.
  • Serve as a resource to other University and Medical Center departments and serve on department and institutional committees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
