About the job

Requirements
  • Typically requires a high school diploma with a minimum of 10 years of related experience, an associate's degree with a minimum of 6 years of related experience, or a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of related experience; related training is required.
  • Experience in EMC testing, including independently performing tests, instrument checkouts, and calibration runs per MIL-STD-461C/462 and MIL-STD-461G for emissions, susceptibility/immunity, and magnetics, including radiated emissions, radiated susceptibility, conducted emissions, and conducted susceptibility.
  • Experience using ETS Lindgren Tile! EMC automated software and the ability to create and run test profiles.
  • Experience using spectrum analyzers (Rohde and Schwarz ESU, FSP38, Keysight UXA), oscilloscopes (Tektronix and Keysight), signal generators (Keysight), network analyzers (Keysight PXA), power meters (Keysight), amplifiers (IFI and AR), and antennas.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform complex and unique technical functions across multiple EMC laboratory facilities, ensuring operations meet technical, safety, and performance standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert supporting EMC engineering, executing high-complexity EMC testing on flight hardware and research and technology development assignments with minimal supervision and broad scope.
  • Apply advanced judgment to laboratory processes, facility operations, and test methodology.
  • Perform EMC testing, including radiated emissions, radiated susceptibility, conducted emissions, and conducted susceptibility per MIL-STD-461C/462, MIL-STD-461F/G, as well as JPL-specific EMC tests including DC magnetics traceability and power quality testing.
  • Read and understand EMC test procedures, independently set up and perform tests using Tile! software, and understand and interpret EMC test results; recommend configurations, test approaches, and interpretations of complex data to engineers.
  • Process test data during and after tests by verifying, reviewing, and documenting pertinent data; finalize data and send it to the EMC engineer or customer.
  • Maintain and manage EMC laboratory facilities, including cleanliness, equipment calibration and maintenance, lab organization, inventory, and supplies; ensure facilities meet occupational and system safety requirements and provide expert input for major facility modifications.
  • Perform regular system checks of RF components across four labs, including testing monopole, biconical, log-periodic, and double-ridged waveguide antennas; resolve complex issues and improve check-out methods as needed.
  • Support construction of mechanical ground support equipment for unique EMC tests and make simple modifications to electronics ground support equipment, including custom electrical switches and line impedance stabilization networks.
  • Use expert fabrication and assembly expertise to lead and carry out construction and modification activities, providing engineering recommendations where needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of managing physical EMC laboratories on site, including daily upkeep, safety requirements, organization, maintenance, and calibration of more than 200 components.
  • Knowledge of performing regular system checks of RF components across labs, including testing monopole, biconical, log-periodic, and double-ridged waveguide antennas.
  • Knowledge of EMC testing, including radiated emissions, radiated susceptibility, conducted emissions, and conducted susceptibility under MIL-STD requirements.
  • Training in flight hardware handling, electrostatic discharge, flight mate/demate, cleanroom fundamentals, and personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of constructing and modifying mechanical and electronics ground support equipment.
  • Advanced understanding of RF measurement techniques and a wide range of RF instruments.
  • Strong knowledge of TILE EMC software.

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory

View

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is a federal research center managed by Caltech for NASA. It designs, builds, and operates robotic space missions for planetary exploration, Earth science, and space-based astronomy, along with technology development. JPL translates scientific ideas into real missions using specialized engineering, software, and mission operations conducted by cross-disciplinary teams, often in collaboration with NASA centers and other partners. Unlike many contractors, JPL functions as a government-run R&D center that directly plans and executes missions from concept through flight operations, ensuring national-space capabilities and scientific discovery stay aligned with NASA's goals. The lab’s aim is to turn bold science questions into working space missions and technologies that advance our understanding of the solar system and Earth, while upholding values of being bold, inclusive, and trusted.

What believers are saying

  • Congress funded NASA at $24.4 billion on January 16, 2026, stabilizing JPL.
  • FAME demonstrations started June 2026, targeting near-real-time wildfire and flood alerts.
  • JPL still manages dozens of missions, preserving customer trust and technical relevance.

What critics are saying

  • JPL cut 550 jobs in October 2025 after earlier 2024-2025 layoffs.
  • Mars Sample Return cancellation erased JPL's flagship program and funding base.
  • Persistent budget cuts and telework exodus threaten JPL's Caltech-managed lab model.

What makes NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory unique

  • JPL runs more than three dozen flying missions across Earth science and planetary exploration.
  • Loft Orbital's June 23, 2026 partnership puts JPL AI on orbit.
  • Howard Eisen and Keyur Patel anchor mission success and chief-engineering discipline.

Loft Orbital to deploy NASA JPL's AI software for real-time Earth disaster monitoring

Loft Orbital has secured an agreement with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to host and demonstrate AI software on its space infrastructure. The collaboration, part of JPL's Federated Autonomous MEasurement project funded by NASA's Earth Science Technology Office, will advance on-orbit AI capabilities for Earth science remote sensing. Flight demonstrations began in June 2026, with additional deployments scheduled through 2028. JPL's AI software aims to reduce data latency by processing information in near-real time, delivering urgent insights on wildfires, flooding and natural disasters to emergency responders. The spacecraft will demonstrate autonomous tip-and-queue tasking without ground intervention using intersatellite links. Founded in 2017, Loft Orbital has flown over 25 missions and operates facilities in San Francisco, Colorado and Toulouse, France.
