About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of eight years of relevant RF engineering experience are typically required.
  • Relevant experience must include a combination of radar cross section (RCS) modeling, prediction, measurement, or reduction; design, fabrication, and testing of antennas, phased array apertures, or RF passive components; ultra-wideband phased array development; and experience with electromagnetic modeling tools such as HFSS, CST, FEKO, SENTRi, or X-Patch, or related computational electromagnetics software.
  • The position requires an active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance before the start date. U.S. citizenship is required.
  • The position requires onsite work and less than 10% annual travel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in the design, modeling, realization, and verification of advanced low-observable antennas, conformal apertures, ultra-wideband phased arrays, and passive RF structures.
  • Develop technical solutions to difficult antenna- and sensor-based application problems, including radar, electronic warfare, electronic attack, electronic support measures, communications, geolocation, and direction finding.
  • Lead design teams through architecture trade studies and detailed electromagnetic analysis.
  • Use full-wave computational electromagnetic tools to model antenna performance, radar cross section signatures, aperture interactions, and airframe-coupled electromagnetic effects.
  • Develop and refine antenna and low-observable design concepts, considering gain, voltage standing wave ratio, bandwidth, field of view, scan performance, polarization purity, structural constraints, and signature objectives.
  • Guide verification and validation of antenna and RF performance, including gain and pattern testing, polarization, insertion loss, and radar cross section measurement campaigns.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering to define RF and radar cross section requirements, develop operational concepts, and support architecture-level trade studies.
  • Translate system-level needs into antenna-level requirements, specifications, and verification plans with clear traceability.
  • Work hands-on with Operations, Assembly, and Test personnel to fabricate prototypes, debug hardware, optimize builds, and support manufacturing and qualification.
  • Mentor peers and early-career engineers in advanced electromagnetic modeling, low-observable techniques, prototyping, and range testing.
  • Present complex technical findings to internal leadership, external customers, and program stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical proposals, concept generation, and competitive strategy for new business pursuits.
  • Execute tasks requiring creativity, innovation, and independent technical judgment on high-visibility programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, and represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

Desired Qualifications

  • A master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in electromagnetics, antennas, survivability, or microwave engineering.
  • Experience presenting complex technical data to leadership, customers, and engineering review boards.
  • Experience preparing and leading technical proposal efforts.
  • Experience leading contract research and development or advanced development programs.
  • Familiarity with structural, thermal, materials, or coatings relevant to low-observable apertures.
  • Ability to mentor and guide multidisciplinary teams on high-impact programs.

About the Company

RTX

Manufactures jet engines, avionics, missiles

RTX operates in aerospace and defense with three main units: Pratt & Whitney jet engines, Collins Aerospace avionics and flight systems, and Raytheon defense systems. Jet engines provide thrust for commercial and military aircraft, avionics manage cockpit controls and navigation, and Raytheon builds missiles, radar, and sensing platforms. It differentiates itself by offering an integrated, end-to-end portfolio across both commercial aviation and national defense under one corporate roof, built on the legacy of Raytheon and UTC. Its goal is to help customers fly more efficiently and protect nations by advancing propulsion, electronics and defense tech for civilian and security needs.
