About the job
- A minimum of 3 years of paving experience and working knowledge of paving equipment is required.
- A high school diploma, General Educational Development credential, or equivalent technical training and related experience is required.
- Knowledge of safety practices is required.
- Knowledge of traffic control is required.
- A valid driver's license is required; a Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
- Supervise the daily activities of the asphalt paving crew.
- Work nights and weekends as required.
- Ensure crew safety and quality of workmanship.
- Oversee the daily work activities performed by the asphalt paving crew.
- Discuss the daily schedule and required equipment with the crew.
- Confirm scheduled loading times, material type, and tonnage totals with the plant operator.
- Order the daily trucking needs.
- Determine the tonnage and type of asphalt needed and notify the plants.
- Communicate with owners, inspectors, and engineers about the paving project.
- Shovel and rake asphalt.
- Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities on tools and equipment.
- Perform calculations for areas and volume.
- Measure distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and check grade from a string line.
- Asphalt-related experience in traffic control, striping, or distributor operations is preferred.
