Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Medical assistant training from an accredited school is required.
  • Certification from the National Healthcareer Association or American Association of Medical Assistants is required or must be completed within six months of hire.
  • Current CPR certification is required and must be maintained.
  • The role requires handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination, prolonged standing, walking, and sitting, occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 100 pounds, normal or corrected visual acuity and hearing, and exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and adherence to confidentiality guidelines are required.
  • Ability to administer examination and treatment procedures and take vital signs is required.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, practice management systems, and electronic medical record systems is required.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, manage multiple priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and maintain effective working relationships is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in delivering primary health care and managing patient care.
  • Perform nursing and administrative duties related to patient care management.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatments, take vital signs, review medications and allergies, and enter health questionnaire information into the electronic medical record.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Administer injections.
  • Apply splints and dressings as ordered.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment supplies and equipment, including sterilization.
  • Assist medical providers with surgical procedures, Pap smears, and physicals.
  • Verify patients using their date of birth and full name.
  • Perform procedures and accompanying paperwork for EKGs, blood pressure monitoring, staple and suture removal, and Pap smears when applicable.
  • Schedule requested testing and outside physician appointments, enter lab orders and prescriptions, provide instructions to patients, and fax orders or prescriptions to facilities or pharmacies.
  • Triage telephone calls for referral to a physician or nurse practitioner.
  • Restock examination rooms weekly or as needed.
  • Obtain laboratory and testing results for medical providers and referring physicians.
  • Enter and update patient information in the electronic medical record and obtain referral numbers as needed.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including CPR training, and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as required.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and clean patient-care areas.
