Responsibilities
  • Test user interfaces and workflows end-to-end by running real loan scenarios through the product as a processor, underwriter, or closer would, across loan types and document conditions.
  • Identify visual glitches, broken validations, workflow dead-ends, incorrect calculations, non-persisting data, integration field loss, and other mortgage-specific edge cases before customers encounter them.
  • Write reproducible bug reports containing exact steps, the loan scenario, expected and actual behavior, and screenshots or recordings.
  • Build and own a regression test suite consisting of manual test cases and lightweight automated scripts using Playwright, Cypress, or similar tools.
  • Own release readiness by performing pre-release verification, signing off on changes ready to ship, and flagging changes that are not ready.
  • Partner directly with Engineering and Product by participating in design reviews, raising edge-case questions early, and helping shape testable and correct features.
  • Define QA standard operating procedures, bug severity rubrics, release checklists, and quality metrics.
  • Within the first 90 days, test core product surfaces and identify previously unknown bug patterns.
  • Within the first 90 days, produce the first version of an internal QA playbook covering testing, bug triage, and release readiness decisions.
  • Within the first 90 days, build an initial regression suite covering high-leverage user flows with manual checklists and lightweight automation.
  • Within the first 90 days, establish a regular working cadence with Engineering and Product for design review, release sign-off, and bug triage.
  • Within 12–18 months, have the opportunity to hire, train, and lead the QA team and own the software-quality function.
Desired Qualifications
  • Mortgage operations experience in processing, underwriting, closing, post-closing, quality control, or similar functions.
  • Hands-on experience with a loan origination system such as Encompass, Empower, or Byte.
  • QA or software testing experience, including manual test design, exploratory testing, regression suites, or release verification, preferably in a regulated or financial software environment.
  • Willingness to write and maintain lightweight Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar test automation scripts.
  • Attention to detail when identifying subtle defects and inconsistencies.
  • Clear written communication for precise bug reports, test plans, and checklists.
  • Comfort with structured data and developer tools, including reading JSON, inspecting API responses, using browser developer tools, and navigating logs.
  • Process-oriented thinking focused on identifying bug patterns and systematizing future detection.
  • Curiosity about artificial intelligence and its effects on mortgage workflows, including testing AI-driven features.
  • Prior team leadership, training, or standard operating procedure-writing experience, such as onboarding new hires, running calibration sessions, or building QA programs from scratch.
