Requirements
  • American College of Veterinary Surgeons Board Certification, or Board Eligibility at the time of the start date; European College of Veterinary Surgeons Board Certification may also be considered.
  • Fellowship training in surgical oncology, specifically an ACVS Fellow in Surgical Oncology, or expected completion of a surgical oncology fellowship before the start date; ACVS Fellowship-trained ECVS Diplomates will be considered.
  • A terminal DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree or equivalent degree.
Responsibilities
  • Manage oncologic surgery cases presented to the UW Veterinary Care hospital.
  • Collaborate with hospital clinical services, including Emergency and Critical Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Dentistry and Oromaxillofacial Surgery, Anesthesia and Pain Management, Dermatology, Special Species and Zoological Medicine, Neurology, and Clinical and Anatomic Pathology, to provide patient care.
  • Consult with referring veterinarians regarding follow-up care and general soft-tissue and oncologic surgery cases.
  • Participate equitably in emergency and after-hours coverage when on clinic duty.
  • Teach preclinical veterinary students in didactic and laboratory courses and participate in curricular development and innovation.
  • Provide clinical instruction and training to fourth-year veterinary students on the Surgical Oncology and multidisciplinary Oncology services.
  • Provide clinical training to surgical and rotating interns on the Oncologic Surgery service.
  • Provide clinical training and mentoring to surgical residents enrolled in the ACVS training program.
  • Provide continuing education to referring veterinarians and audiences at local, regional, national, or international levels.
  • Conduct basic science, clinical, or teaching-related research and publish scholarly results.
  • Establish intramural and extramural research funding.
  • Participate in administrative committees at the hospital, department, school, and campus levels.
  • Participate in professional organizations and outreach activities.
  • Perform approximately 20–30 weeks per year of clinic duty, with an approximate allocation of 40–60% clinical practice, 10–15% teaching, 10–40% research, and 5–15% service.
