Requirements
  • Strong professional experience with Python, including asynchronous programming and building and maintaining REST APIs.
  • A solid understanding of data integration between services, including reliably moving, synchronizing, and reconciling data across systems; handling failures and retries; and maintaining consistency when systems disagree.
  • A solid understanding of HTTP and API design, including pagination, timeouts, rate limiting, and caching, plus experience debugging performance issues in a live service.
  • Experience with a key-value or caching data store and the ability to reason about caching and invalidation tradeoffs.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud provider, including serverless functions, containerized services, or similar technologies.
  • Ability to read logs and distributed traces to debug systems issues rather than only local code.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting root causes and coordinating fixes across engineering teams.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain Python services and REST APIs that integrate the customer relationship management platform with downstream systems such as payments, account management, and internal data services.
  • Diagnose and resolve production performance issues, including blocking input/output, connection handling, caching strategy, and API latency under load.
  • Use asynchronous Python and asyncio to safely parallelize input/output-bound work without degrading service throughput.
  • Implement and tune caching layers such as Redis for high-throughput endpoints.
  • Build and maintain integrations with a customer relationship management platform such as Salesforce, including data queries and REST-based synchronization.
  • Deploy and operate services in a cloud environment such as Amazon Web Services, including serverless functions, containerized services, and monitoring and alerting.
  • Use observability and application performance monitoring tooling to trace requests, identify bottlenecks, and validate fixes with production data.
  • Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code following architectural patterns with clear separation of API, business logic, and infrastructure layers.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call and production-support role by triaging alerts, coordinating fixes across teams, and helping prevent incidents from becoming outages.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, DevOps and site reliability engineering, and product stakeholders to scope and ship integration work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Twilio Voice, Studio, Flex, or similar telephony and interactive voice response platforms.
  • Experience integrating with Salesforce, including Salesforce Object Query Language, Apex, and REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with an application performance monitoring or observability platform such as Dynatrace, Datadog, or New Relic, including instrumenting services with distributed tracing such as OpenTelemetry or structured logging.
  • Comfort writing SQL for debugging and data validation across systems, including data warehouse queries and customer relationship management query languages such as Salesforce Object Query Language.
  • Familiarity with API documentation tooling such as OpenAPI or Swagger.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services Step Functions, container autoscaling, or infrastructure as code such as Terraform.
  • Prior on-call or production-support experience in a fast-moving environment.

Self Financial helps people build credit and a financial foundation. It focuses on individuals with limited or no credit history and provides tools to establish and grow credit, reaching over 4 million users. The goal is to give users a practical path to start and strengthen their credit profile through a consumer app and related services. Unlike some lenders, Self emphasizes credit-building tools and financial foundation support rather than traditional lending only.
