Crystal Dynamics lays off 20 staff in fourth round of cuts in under a year

Crystal Dynamics has announced its fourth round of layoffs in under a year, cutting 20 employees despite assuring fans that development of upcoming Tomb Raider titles remains on track. The studio initially laid off 17 employees a year ago whilst working on Perfect Dark and an unnamed Tomb Raider project. Microsoft's cancellation of the Perfect Dark reboot in July triggered subsequent layoff rounds in August and November, occurring just weeks before Crystal Dynamics announced Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Legacy of Atlantis. In a LinkedIn post, the studio stated the cuts were necessary as projects enter new development phases, though it remains "fully committed" to the announced Tomb Raider titles. The company said it strives to transition staff into new roles when possible, but these departures were unavoidable.
