The Opportunity 

Flock Safety needs this Hardware Test Engineer to help ensure our systems run smoothly and work together as we grow. As our product lineup expands, the integrations between parts become more complex. This role is crucial for spotting and fixing potential issues before they become problems for customers. By setting up solid testing processes, this engineer will make sure all the pieces of our hardware work well together, even as we add new features. The focus will also be on improving our testing methods and working closely with other teams to make development faster and products more reliable. This role is key to keeping Flock’s hardware performing at a high level for our customers.

The Skillset 

• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve hardware issues, including circuit board debugging and component-level troubleshooting (e.g., understanding and working with resistors).

• Experience in developing and executing test scripts to validate hardware functionality and identify defects.

• Proficient in Python scripting for test automation, particularly in embedded systems environments (Android and Linux preferred). Experience with shell scripting (Bash) in a Unix environment.

• Hands-on experience with hardware lab equipment, including oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

• Ability to write code and perform hands-on testing, demonstrating a blend of software and hardware expertise. 

• Hardware Validation Strategy Development: Ability to design and document comprehensive hardware validation strategies, including testing protocols, timelines, and tool integration.

• Proven ability to effectively collaborate with engineering and other teams on hardware testing projects, contributing to efficient validation processes.

• Experience in identifying potential risks in hardware validation (e.g., performance, connectivity) and developing mitigation plans.

• Commitment to refining hardware testing methodologies through participation in retrospectives and implementation of process improvements.

90 Days at Flock

The First 30 Days

• Gain a comprehensive understanding of Flock’s hardware product suite and validation processes

• Develop a roadmap for long-term hardware validation improvements.

The First 60 Days 

• Establish a proactive risk management approach for hardware validation testing

• Participate in at least two retrospective sessions with the test team, offering feedback on current processes and contributing to the implementation of at least three improvements based on the retrospective discussions.

90 Days & Beyond 

• Maintain a comprehensive hardware validation knowledge base, including test protocols, risk assessments, and lessons learned from past projects

• Full ownership and continuous integration of hardware testing

The Interview Process 

We want our interview process to be a true reflection of our culture: transparent and collaborative. Throughout the interview process, your recruiter will guide you through the next steps and ensure you feel prepared every step of the way. 

1. Our First Chat: During this first conversation, you’ll meet with a recruiter to chat through your background, what you could bring to Flock, what you are looking for in your next role, and who we are. 

2. The Hiring Manager Interview: You will meet with your potential future boss to really dive into the role, the team, expectations, and what success means at Flock. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field. 

3. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day. 

4. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners. 

5. The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more. 

Salary & Equity

In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary between  $101,200-$139,150 as well as Flock Safety Stock Options.
