Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in Nursing with extensive nursing experience in an administrative/management/supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, and control activities of a department within or across all hospital services.
  • Ability to understand function or service from perspective of individuals or departments served.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, management, physicians, and others.
  • Ability to project and formulate the future needs of the services.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate the impact of internal and external change on the service.
Responsibilities
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective management of departments within Surgical Services.
  • Evaluates daily activities and makes operational changes as necessary to improve service levels.
  • Develops and provides input into hospital-wide policies or departmental policies that impact across division lines.
  • Actively participates on hospital committees which address operational issues.
  • Negotiates agreements with provider groups, vendor groups, and contract services for certain products and services.
  • Provides leadership for the Surgical Services strategic planning task force.
  • Develops a long range strategy consistent with hospital goals and objectives that provides for the growth and changing needs of the service.
  • Develops annual goals and objectives to support the long-range plan.
  • Promotes the profitable operation of the service through development, review, modification and marketing programs.
  • Ensures the involvement and support of the medical staff in the planning and implementation of programs within the service.
  • Develops and submits for approval a departmental capital and operating budget and is accountable for the achievement of capital and operating budget objectives.
  • Monitors and controls departmental budget and authorizes budgeted expenditures in accordance with the approved budget and hospital fiscal policy.
  • Recruits, hires, orients and evaluates performance of Manager(s), Supervisor(s), Coordinator(s) or other assigned personnel.
  • Administers the departmental Quality Improvement plan for the service.
  • Communicates and coordinates with the departments and services on a daily basis on operational activities as necessary to provide an efficient and quality service.
Desired Qualifications
