Requirements
  • The candidate must be at least 18 years old.
  • The candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and an interest in natural resource management.
  • The candidate must possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record verified through a background check.
  • The candidate must be able to work outdoors and tolerate the climate and conditions of natural areas typical to northeast Kansas.
  • The candidate must complete reference and background screening as required by JCPRD.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Urban Forestry Supervisor with tree and shrub care, related equipment, tree-related projects, and JCPRD nursery operations.
  • Mow, string trim, mulch, and perform grounds maintenance.
  • Operate equipment and trucks as trained, assigned, and licensed.
  • Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Assist with tree removals, pruning, and debris disposal.
  • Safely use chippers, stump grinders, chainsaws, and other tools and equipment for maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect tools and equipment and perform repairs and maintenance when required.
  • Use appropriate protective gear and observe safety protocols.
  • Extract and dispose of invasive plants.
  • Plant and water new and young trees.
  • Assist with JCPRD nursery operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced coursework in natural resource management is preferred.
