Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, electrical, environmental, energy, automation engineering, computer engineering, information systems, or a related technical field, plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Commitment to energy management, climate action, and continuous improvement of building systems.
  • Well-developed analytical and systems-level thinking skills.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Excel analytics, database tools, computer-aided design, and familiarity with server and network management environments.
  • Foundational understanding of building mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Foundational understanding of building automation systems, controls logic, basic networking principles, wireless communication, hardware devices, software, and networks.
  • Foundational understanding of the commissioning process, including commissioning principles from project formulation through design, construction, functional testing, and system turnover to operations.
  • Ability to adapt independently to changing technical priorities and manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across operations, engineering, information technology, and project management teams.
Responsibilities
  • Support management of building automation and data systems that enable monitoring and analysis of building and energy performance.
  • Review campus automation systems and identify opportunities for system standardization, reliability, data availability, scalability, improved programming logic, enhanced graphical interfaces, and improved trending and alarming practices.
  • Coordinate with Yale information technology staff, under the direction of the Administrator, to support network connectivity, server configuration, and data integrity for building automation systems.
  • Maintain as-built documentation of automation systems, including sequences of operation, network architecture, control diagrams, and data point lists.
  • Support user access management, change tracking, and documentation updates for building automation and analytics systems.
  • Contribute to initiatives involving metering systems, submetering databases, load management, and campus-wide data integration.
  • Analyze building-level system performance using building automation system data, metering systems, and analytics platforms to identify operational inefficiencies, comfort concerns, and energy optimization opportunities.
  • Support development and refinement of fault detection and diagnostic rules, trend logs, dashboards, and reporting tools to enhance proactive maintenance and system reliability.
  • Prepare technical reports, energy summaries, and performance analyses for Facilities leadership and campus stakeholders.
  • Support development of building performance standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to energy management and system optimization.
  • Participate in the formulation, design, construction, and commissioning of projects overseen by Yale's capital projects group.
  • Review design documents for University objectives and design standards, operability, maintainability, controls integration, and energy performance.
  • Support project turnover by assisting in verification of graphical interfaces, trending configuration, alarming setup, and system documentation completeness.
  • Assist Campus Operations and Utilities staff in troubleshooting mechanical and controls-related issues.
  • Analyze system data to identify root causes of operational problems and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in preparing scopes of work and technical documentation for energy and controls-related projects.
  • Plan work scopes, requests for proposal, and technical specifications for engineering and controls projects.
  • Manage consultants and contractors to ensure adherence to project scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Participate in project budgeting exercises and provide technical input on capital planning related to building performance and automation.
