About the job
- Extensive knowledge of machine shop practices acquired through substantial on-the-job training and experience.
- A journeyman machining qualification or eight years of equivalent experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and print-reading skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Knowledge or experience with lathes, mills, computer numerical control setup and programming, surface grinding, or jig grinding is beneficial but not required.
- Understanding of individual contribution to product conformity and product safety.
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to multitask.
- No lifting restrictions.
- Ability to stand and work on one's feet for extended periods.
- Set up, operate, and tend grinding equipment.
- Perform cylindrical grinding, internal-diameter grinding, and specialized tool or spindle grinding applications.
- Plan and perform difficult grinding operations requiring complicated setups or a high degree of accuracy.
- Determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence, or select those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts, using precision measuring instruments.
- Maintain a workable supply of perishable tools required for machine operation.
- Assist at other machines in manufacturing when needed.
- Knowledge or experience with lathes, mills, computer numerical control setup and programming, surface grinding, or jig grinding.
