Goldman Sachs has added Amazon to its conviction buy list with a 12-month price target of $375, representing approximately 50% upside from current levels. The stock already carries buy ratings from 95% of Wall Street analysts. Amazon crossed $3 trillion in market capitalisation for the first time in August following strong second-quarter results. AWS revenue reached $42.2 billion in Q2, up 37% year over year — the division's fastest growth in 18 quarters. Total company revenue hit $200.6 billion, up 20%, marking the first time Amazon surpassed $200 billion in a single quarter. CEO Andy Jassy said capital expenditures are projected to reach $220 billion this year, driven by AI-related demand.
Amazon and Shopify reported Q2 2026 results revealing sharply divergent AI shopping strategies. Amazon grew revenue 19.6% to $200.61 billion, with over 350 million customers using Alexa for Shopping in the past year. The company is building a closed ecosystem, blocking external AI agents whilst keeping transactions internal through tools like price alerts and auto-buy. Shopify grew revenue 33.7% to $3.58 billion, with AI-driven orders tripling year-over-year. The company is pursuing an open model, allowing any AI agent to build carts and check out through its platform via the Universal Commerce Protocol. However, Shopify's transaction and loan losses rose to $141 million from $80 million, raising questions about the profitability of its open approach as it scales.
Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding answers from Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft over $96 billion in lost federal revenue from AI-related tax breaks. Despite reporting massive revenues in Q2 2026, the tech giants saw significant tax reductions last year. Amazon paid $7.8 billion less in tax, Meta nearly $7 billion less, whilst Microsoft and Alphabet each qualified for roughly $19 billion in tax cuts. The companies are benefiting from provisions in Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, including 100% bonus depreciation for AI data centres and expanded R&D tax credits. Corporate tax revenues have dropped 23% this year, largely due to these AI tax breaks. Warren and fellow lawmakers have sent letters to the companies' CEOs questioning the tax breaks and their lobbying efforts, arguing the costs have been imposed on American families through cuts to Social Security and other programmes.
A 16-storey office tower in Dallas' Galleria area is undergoing a $57 million renovation, with records suggesting Amazon may be the incoming tenant. The project at 13737 Noel Road, known as Galleria North Tower I, involves a two-phase interior renovation covering 223,000 square feet. Construction is expected to begin in January and last through mid-August 2027. The filing lists "DFW 22" as the tenant, a naming convention consistent with Amazon's other facilities, and includes contact details for an Amazon construction manager. WS Development purchased the building for roughly $63.4 million in June 2025. Amazon already maintains a presence nearby at Two Galleria Tower, where it renewed its five-year lease in 2024.
Amazon is acquiring a NT$1.59 billion (approximately $49 million) stake in Gold Circuit Electronics, a Taiwanese manufacturer of printed circuit boards for AI servers and network switches. The investment will give Amazon roughly 13% ownership in GCE. The deal marks Amazon's strategic move to secure supply chain capacity for its AI infrastructure needs. GCE specialises in high-layer-count PCBs used in advanced computing systems, which have become increasingly critical as demand for AI hardware accelerates. The transaction is expected to close in the coming months, subject to regulatory approval. GCE supplies multiple technology companies but will now have Amazon as a significant shareholder, potentially securing priority access to production capacity during periods of high demand.
