Requirements
  • Graduation from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer; Missouri licensure is required within one year of hire for the Senior Staff Engineer role.
  • The Senior Staff Engineer role requires five years of engineering experience focused on water and wastewater projects or services.
  • The Senior Staff Engineer must have a valid state driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record.
  • The Utilities Engineer role requires passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination.
  • The Utilities Engineer must have a valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to the water and wastewater industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in wastewater collection and water distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of asset management, condition assessment, and evaluation studies.
  • Knowledge of sewer and water pipe installation and repair.
  • Knowledge of pump station design and troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of surveying.
Responsibilities
  • Represent the Water Utilities Department in interactions with the Public Works Engineering Division, engineering consultants, project-related contractors, other water and sewer utilities, and developers.
  • Manage assets and coordinate and monitor capital improvement projects.
  • Perform periodic plan reviews.
  • Collect and evaluate data regarding water and wastewater systems.
  • Manage projects and provide engineering support to utility operations.
  • Prepare and deliver public presentations and interact with elected and appointed officials, city staff, utility customers, and other interested parties.
  • Perform engineering design, analysis, and calculations.
  • Administer project management activities and interpret construction contracts and specifications.
  • Organize data collection activities.
  • Analyze technical information and identify solutions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, service providers, and the public.
