Requirements
- Current Alabama Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training.
- Basic computer skills to use the electronic medical record, electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
- Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, receive delegation, work in groups, perform structured and unstructured work, meet time pressure and timelines, and perform work exactly and accurately.
- Ability to tolerate possible exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, laboratory chemicals, hazardous materials, and cleaning solutions while using common protective and safety equipment.
- Ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, sit, stoop, lift, reach reasonable distances, and run in an emergency.
- Coordinated finger movement and ability to feel and perceive temperature, texture, shape, and size with the fingertips.
- Normal or corrected hearing and vision within the normal range.
- Stamina to work a 12-hour shift.
- Ability to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Physical presence onsite is essential.
Responsibilities
- Administer compassionate care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse while maintaining nursing practice standards and creating positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Encourage team members and support their contributions.
- Supervise PCAs, PCAs/US, ED Clerical/PCA, CRSS, and/or technicians.
- Perform basic and/or advanced nursing tasks appropriate for the department or unit.
- Provide and document patient or significant-other education based on physical, behavioral, psychological, developmental, and age-related factors after identifying barriers to learning.
- Record and report all observed abnormal or significant findings to the Registered Nurse, including symptoms, abnormal drainage, reactions, responses to treatments, medications, and changes in patient condition.
- Document all patient care activities and observations according to policies and procedures.
- Support the care team with the patient discharge process.
- Collect and document ongoing data for each assigned patient, including normal systems review and behavioral, psychological, developmental, and age-related factors for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Participate in performance-improvement activities by serving on performance-improvement teams, assisting with performance-improvement measures, and supporting and implementing necessary changes.
- Perform initial and annual competency requirements for the job class.
- Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards outlined in the performance evaluation.
- Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook and adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards, Health System policies, and procedures.
- Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures patient, visitor, and employee safety.
- Identify and reduce unsafe practices and recognize and address risks and hazards to promote safety.
- Use electronic mail, telephone, texting, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
