Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A certification in a relevant specialty or field, a valid Miami-Dade County license, or an associate degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A valid Florida driver's license is required.
  • At least four years of relevant experience is required.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management system work-order systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, is required.
  • English communication skills in both spoken and written form are required.
  • The position requires emergency response after hours, on days off, and during rotating weekend support.
  • The employee must participate in the University's National Incident Management System training.
  • The employee must be able to work independently and collaboratively, complete assignments accurately, maintain an orderly work area, safeguard tools and equipment, and follow safety procedures for handling equipment.
  • The employee must have interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to work effectively with staff, customers, and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain general building systems and equipment.
  • Ensure that building systems are operational and inspected according to accepted standards.
  • Direct and support technical support staff and provide direction, training, and guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance and repair programs and procedures.
  • Respond to service requests, including hot calls, cold calls, and odor complaints.
  • Inspect water and life-safety systems and respond to fire-system and emergency calls.
  • Identify economic, safety, regulatory, and energy-conservation deficiencies and report them to the lead, supervisor, or manager.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs, including repairing leaks, unclogging drains, repairing or replacing plumbing fixtures, and minor soldering and brazing.
  • Perform electrical repairs and mechanical maintenance involving lighting, flooring, paint, and miscellaneous assigned work.
  • Check boilers, water lines, gas lines, and sewer lines.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on machinery according to a comprehensive schedule.
  • Repair and maintain building structures and cracks.
  • Assist with maintaining air-handler units by cleaning, applying chemicals, changing or cleaning filters, changing blower wheels, lubricating non-sealed bearings, cleaning housings, and welding coolant leaks.
  • Identify and patch wall leakage.
  • Maintain and clean air vents and returns.
  • Repair or replace ballasts, switches, motors, controls, and lighting fixtures.
  • Operate heating and cooling systems, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace switches, thermostats, humidistats, and other equipment components.
  • Check and operate fire pumps and cycle and test generators.
  • Pressure-clean and paint facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure that door-locking systems and door closures function properly.
  • Support primary utility-locator duties by using utility-location equipment to identify underground utilities and create multiple grids.
  • Maintain schedules and assist with efficient task and project planning.
  • Safeguard University assets, tools, equipment, and spare parts.
