Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced, multifaceted accounting and related functions, including ledger maintenance and analysis, cost and financial analysis, fund reconciliation, posting, and inventory control.
  • Analyze complex financial and operating data and prepare management reports, financial statements, and other general accounting outputs on a regular and as-needed basis.
  • Monitor revenue and expenses for unit and institutional accounts and ensure expenditure control and compliance with System and other funding and reporting requirements and policies, as well as standard accounting procedures.
  • Coordinate the timely and accurate preparation of regularly scheduled and special billings, cost reports, analyses, student and inventory records, and preliminary financial statements for local, state, federal, and private funding sources.
  • Coordinate with Finance Divisions to prepare journal vouchers and make corrections or adjustments identified through review of financial records.
  • Oversee the input and handling of financial data reports and participate in or direct the analysis, reconciliation, balancing, and maintenance of accounting records.
  • Assist with maintaining the system-wide chart of accounts.
  • Direct or participate in the preparation, review, and processing of budget, revenue, and expense corrections, including bank reconciliations involving greater complexity or exceptions to typical procedures.
  • Coordinate and monitor data-processing batches, including suspense control, cash counts, and balancing; identify and investigate discrepancies and errors; resolve complex problems related to funds, budgets, expenditures, and procurement practices; and field support requests from more junior staff and institutional finance divisions.
  • Provide strategic support for the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal fiscal systems and procedures by applying basic and advanced accounting concepts, methods, and techniques.
  • Interact with internal and external auditors and participate in or direct auditing activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of USNH systems, policies, and procedures related to accounting operations and adhere to established standards and protocols.
  • Advise on and interpret financial policies for faculty, staff, vendors, and funding source representatives; communicate relevant reports; and provide training to institutional business leaders as necessary.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Additional finance or accounting credentials, such as Certified Public Accountant certification, are strongly preferred.
  • Experience operating in a shared service setting is preferred.
  • Experience working for a tax-exempt organization is preferred.
  • Knowledge of or direct experience with Workday Finance is preferred.
