About the job
- A high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES are required.
- Medical Assistant certification is required.
- Maintain American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support certification.
- Complete the Hepatitis B vaccine and influenza vaccine form; vaccination may be declined through a declination form or documented from a previous employer.
- Complete a tuberculosis test.
- Have at least one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant, or documented evidence of an externship completed in a medical office.
- Have experience with electrocardiograms, vital signs, venipuncture, capillary punctures, injections, electronic health record utilization, and serving customers in person and by phone.
- Be able to walk, stand, sit, lift, reach, stoop, bend, push, and pull consistently.
- Be able to lift and support 35 pounds.
- Be able to concentrate on details and use a computer for extended periods.
- Escort patients to examination and procedure rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, collect patient histories, perform screenings, prepare patients for physical examinations, and document information in patient charts.
- Assist patients with walking transfers, dressing, and specimen collection.
- Perform nursing procedures under the supervision of a physician or physician assistant.
- Assist physicians and physician assistants in examination rooms.
- Give patients and families instructions as directed by physicians or physician assistants.
- Respond to patient-care telephone calls and messages, take telephone messages, and provide feedback or answers according to physician or advanced-practice clinician direction.
- Collect and process messages from patients and front-office staff for physicians and physician assistants.
- Administer medications through various routes except intravenous routes, including injections.
- Assist with minor surgery by setting up surgical trays, providing pre- and post-surgical care, applying dressings, and removing sutures.
- Instruct patients on assistive devices, body mechanics, and home care.
- Initiate laboratory procedures according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines and quality-control methods.
- Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived testing, capillary punctures, venipunctures, and specimen handling for urine, throat, vaginal, stool, and sputum specimens.
- Initiate and mount electrocardiography testing.
- Schedule appointments and referrals and follow up to ensure completion of physician orders.
- Process medication refills, reconcile laboratory information, and complete medication forms and prior authorizations.
- Monitor assigned Athena and other boxes for coverage.
- Work at different Tryon office locations as needed.
- Assemble patients’ health information, including symptoms, medical history, examination results, X-ray reports, laboratory tests, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
- Ensure reports, laboratory results, and other information are available in medical records before appointments.
- Review forms for completion, identification, signatures, and required information in the electronic health record.
- Communicate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses or obtain additional information.
- Obtain and send patient medical records to support continuity of care.
- Send records within one workday of chart completion to physicians involved in a patient’s care.
- Obtain laboratory and X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, and related documentation.
- Complete forms and requisitions as needed.
- Schedule physician and ancillary appointments.
- Update charts so information is complete and filed appropriately.
- Alert physicians when charts are incomplete or not completed within established time standards.
- Check schedules and organize patient flow.
- Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocols.
- Clean examination and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
- Perform medical and surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping, and autoclaving.
- Clean the sterilizer according to the scheduled maintenance program and maintain appropriate records.
- Keep examination rooms stocked with medical supplies; order, sort, and store supplies.
- Complete biohazard-waste disposal and monitoring.
- Maintain logs and required checks for refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, and cold-sterilization fluid changes.

Tryon Medical Partners opens first Union County office in Waxhaw. July 28, 2026 The region's largest independent multispecialty clinic offers compassionate, personalized care as part of its commitment to Union County. Charlotte, N.C. - Tryon Medical Partners has expanded into Union County, opening a new office in Waxhaw. Practice leaders and community guests celebrated the new location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and office tour July 28. The new 4,800-square-foot office suite, located at 1621 South Providence Road, Suite 370, Waxhaw, NC 28173, is Tryon's first location in Union County. To celebrate Tryon's expansion into Union County and thank the Marvin and Waxhaw communities for their warm welcome, Tryon made a $2,500 donation to the Downtown Waxhaw Association as part of the ceremony. Tryon Medical Partners Waxhaw will offer internal medicine services, led by Luis Bendezu, MD, FACP, a board-certified internal medicine physician who has cared for patients since 1995. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, he provides comprehensive primary care with clinical interests including preventive medicine, hypertension, cholesterol management and chronic disease care. Dr. Bendezu is supported by advanced care practitioner Sydney Foley, FNP-C. Both Dr. Bendezu and FNP-C Foley are accepting new patients. Tryon welcomes Dr. Larry Berman and his team to Pineville. Tryon Medical Partners is proud to announce that Charlotte adolescent and adult internal medicine physician, Larry F. Berman, MD, MSPH, and his care team will join Tryon's Pineville office. Since 1990, Dr. Berman and his team have provided award-winning primary care for countless patients in Charlotte. Tryon also warmly welcomes Dr. Berman's 3,500 patients, who will receive primary care at Tryon Pineville when his team starts seeing patients in January 2026.
