Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification is required unless the candidate is enrolled in a Doctor of Pharmacy program.
  • Applicants enrolled in or graduates of a two-year associate's degree or four-year bachelor's degree program in a health science major are encouraged to apply and must achieve Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of generic and trade names of formulary drugs is required.
  • Ability to type and perform basic mathematical calculations is required.
  • Excellent customer service is required.
  • Ability to handle high volume is required.
  • Flexible scheduling is required, including availability for weekends and holidays as required, and the ability to work at all three Retail Outpatient Pharmacy Department sites.

Responsibilities

  • Fill patient prescriptions, including data entry, insurance billing, and appropriate labeling and packaging, for pharmacist verification.
  • Assist the pharmacist in providing timely, efficient, cost-effective, and appropriate pharmaceutical care to patients.
  • Make medication credit and charge adjustments via the computer system.
  • Return extra medication to stock.
  • Reorder medications in short supply to restock the pharmacy.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Answer telephone calls and greet personnel entering the pharmacy courteously.
  • Provide necessary information regarding patient drug orders.
  • Refer problems and drug-information inquiries to the pharmacist as required.
  • Orient and train new pharmacy personnel.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous outpatient pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Experience with the McKesson Enterprise application is preferred.
  • Computer experience is preferred.
