About the job
- An active Professional Engineering license is required.
- A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a similar field is required.
- Knowledge of building materials, codes, construction methods, and common modes of failure is required.
- Ability to adhere to tight deadlines is required.
- Availability to accept assignments and perform site inspections within 5–7 days is required.
- Proficiency with multiple software platforms, tools, equipment, and investigative techniques is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Analytical and problem-solving ability is required.
- Perform engineering failure analysis, including determining the cause and origin of damage, fires, electrocutions, and equipment failures.
- Perform site evaluations, field analyses, and assessments of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Evaluate failures resulting from hail or wind damage, lightning strikes, improper maintenance, improper installation, product defects, freeze events, machinery breakdown, wear and tear, and general construction failures.
- Provide recommendations for remediation and repair.
- Safely access roofs, attics, and crawl spaces to photograph areas of interest.
- Identify and interview witnesses and other key parties involved.
- Prepare and submit findings and recommendations for resolving insurance claims or litigation matters.
