Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.).
  • Hold current appropriate state licensure and ACLS certification.
  • Have 6–8 years of related experience.
  • Have at least three years of experience in an Ambulatory Surgical Center or Vascular Access Lab, or a combination of ASC, surgical, Interventional Radiology, and ICU/CCU experience.
  • Be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite and have experience with medical database software.
  • Demonstrate management skills necessary to provide leadership and supervision of facility personnel and ensure maximum quality care for patients.
  • Be certified in CPR or successfully complete a CPR certification course.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate facility operations and patient procedures with the Facility Manager, facility staff, and physicians to ensure quality patient care in accordance with policies, procedures, and training.
  • Provide nursing support to patients and staff, and assist with staffing, staff training, equipment, physician and patient relations, cost containment, supply management, medical records, patient billing, OSHA, and compliance requirements.
  • Support and drive quality standards by meeting regulatory requirements and using Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) tools.
  • Assist with implementing quality goals and developing facility-specific action plans.
  • Work with management to ensure policies and procedures are followed to meet patient-care quality goals.
  • Implement training according to policy and ensure ongoing compliance with risk-management initiatives.
  • Address adverse events and action thresholds.
  • Communicate and implement quality policies and procedures with facility staff.
  • Maintain the integrity of medical, administrative, and operational records.
  • Complete data collection and auditing activities and maintain facility environmental integrity and safety.
  • Coordinate patient care with appropriate staff from admission through discharge.
  • As needed, confer with patients before procedures, obtain medical history, discuss procedures, answer questions, and perform nursing assessments on procedure days.
  • Educate patients and families about post-procedure vascular access care and serve as a staff resource for patient concerns and questions.
  • Ensure procedures are scheduled promptly and facility capacity is used efficiently.
  • As needed, support patient workflow by providing direct care and monitoring patients before, during, and after procedures.
  • Identify and communicate patient-related issues to the Facility Manager.
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation of patient treatments from admission through discharge.
  • Confirm that written orders, consents, and laboratory work are completed and documented; prepare laboratory requisitions, deliver them to laboratories, and report and forward results to physicians.
  • Assume primary responsibility in emergencies, maintain competency in emergency procedures, and initiate CPR and other emergency measures as needed.
  • Administer medications and intravenous conscious sedation as directed by physician orders and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with physicians as needed.
  • Attend Governing Body meetings and assist with agendas and meeting materials.
  • Attend CQI meetings with physicians and report on assigned topics.
  • Work with physicians and staff to ensure required instruments and equipment are available.
  • Ensure proper operation and regular inspection of facility equipment and technology, including patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices, and computers; promptly report malfunctions and maintenance issues.
  • Inspect facility operating systems, check temperatures in designated areas, and inspect the physical structure.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the vascular access facility.
  • Address blood spills immediately according to Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
  • Participate in cost-control initiatives and efficiently use medications, laboratory services, inventory, supplies, and equipment to meet supply-cost goals and follow formularies.
  • Assist with developing and revising facility policies and procedures for continuous process improvement.
  • Initiate, document, and complete ongoing CQI activities, including monthly reports, and attend required meetings.
  • Manage medication ordering, receiving, and inventory; check for expired medications and document controlled substances as required by law.
  • Maintain medication usage logs and drug-disposal records, and coordinate with the pharmacist to ensure medication accuracy and proper controlled-substance documentation.
  • Ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and compliant before patient discharge, and conduct regular chart audits.
  • Coordinate annual medical and competency testing for facility staff with the Facility Manager.
  • Participate in regulatory and accreditation surveys and develop action plans to address identified deficiencies.
  • Verify that records for implanted devices are accurately completed, timely, and maintained according to records-management guidelines.
  • Coordinate collection and forwarding of vendor invoices to accounting.
  • Act as Facility Manager in the manager’s absence or at management’s direction.
  • Ensure nurses’ progress notes are accurate and complete.
  • Act as Patient Safety Officer and conduct quarterly patient-safety meetings and fire drills.
  • Comply with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient information and medical records.
  • Travel between assigned facilities and community locations; travel to regional, Business Unit, and corporate meetings may be required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • An advanced degree is desirable.
  • Three or more years of supervisory or project/program management experience are preferred.
  • Three or more years of Interventional Radiology scrub experience are preferred.
  • Supervisory or management experience in a medical or vascular access environment is preferred.
